Boone County 6 Conner 5 (9 innings)

Featured Replies

Final from Florence.

Conner led 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th. Boone tied it.

Conner went ahead 5-4 in the top of the 9th.

Boone scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th to win it.

Ganns had 3 doubles.

Ganns and Ross

It was nice to see the Rebels back on the field after another week of rain outs and it felt good to play at home for the first time in five weeks.

Both starters had a great game. Leaving runners on base kept Ganns from a chance of picking up another win. Purnell comes in the 7th for Boone to pick up his second district win and gets the walk off hit to end the game. Great team effort. Hopefully, Santomo's (sp) leg injury is nothing severe and be able to keep his hot bat in the lineup.

On a side note, It was nice to see fans from both teams having a good time, sitting together and having a great time. Excellent Game

From the always popular 2nd guessing the coach files:

B9, Boone down 1. Leadoff batter reaches first on a close play but looks like he tweaked his hammy. Delayed for a while .

Needing one run and your kid just hurt his hammy why wouldn't you put Floyd in to pinch run? Gann doubled and IMO Floyd would have scored on the double. The kid who was hurt was limping between 2nd and 3rd.

Yes it worked out ultimately but it seemed like the obvious move. No?

A kid who we do not seem to hear a lot about but can really play is Conner's Jared Williams. Switch hitter. Smooth stroke.

IMO, There would have been a play attempt at home if Boone chose to push it no matter who was running, but with no outs and Boone's top batting averages coming up to bat it was smart not to risk giving Conner a mental boost w a good play at the plate. Per Boone's stats, Johnson and Purnell are hitting over .400 for the reg season and Johnson, Martin, Purnell are at the top w/ Ganns w/ RBI's. Boone has had too many outs this season trying to get the extra base, so I feel it was a excellent decision to hold the runner. As on not using Floyd , with Floyd already used as a courtesy runner earlier in the game, could he come in as a pinch runner ? I'm not up with all the rules on enter/re-enter runner rules.

Floyd could have entered as a pinch runner and the kid he replaced could have re-entered if necessary.

Floyd was already used as a pinch runner so not eligible, same with Mayberry.

Congrats to Boone and Trey Ganns in particular. Trey didn't have his breaking ball working but kept Boone in it with a dominating fastball up in the zone.

And the kid can rake obviously.

It's great to see good kids have success.

I could see these two teams playing again in a district championship game.

He's even smoother in the field than at the plate.

Congrats to Jared. Headed to Transy to play ball.

Agree, kid can play

Ganns going 4-5 with 3 dubs(one off the fence), hustling out an infield single, and pitching into the 7th is putting your team on your back!
