How Many Schools Have State Titles In Basketball, Football, and Baseball?

Featured Replies

Per google and wiki, Clark Burckle is the only St. X swimmer to compete in the Olympics and he finished 6th in the 200 meter breastroke.

Here is the wiki page with details about St. X athletics:

St. Xavier High School (Louisville) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From the article:

St. X has the most successful athletic program in Kentucky, having won 176 boys' state championships. In 2005, St. Xavier was ranked #14 in "Sports Illustrated" Best High School Athletic Programs.

Wow, that is pretty impressive.

Kind of surprised about the swimming and the olympics though. This area has produced some very good swimmers, Cooper has a state champion and also an Olympic tiral swimmer in Sharli Brady. Just thought St X with swimming being the most successful program at the school would have produced a couple Olympic swimmers by now.

Very impressive though with all of St X's accomplishments.

Edmonson County

Won the Basketball title in 1976 (I was a Junior, those were great times).

I assume All A State Championships count for the non-football sports, since as we all know, if you win the All A - you are "State Champs".

I'm curious if St X ever produced any Olympic medal winners in swimming with all their titles?

Cov Cath has :D

I don't follow swimming much but I believe this area has two really good swimming programs that really develop the talent around Gr. Cinti-the Marlins and the Clippers? I believe some top national/international swim coaches have come through these programs. Not sure if Louisville has something comparable.

Any Lexington public schools make the list?

So far we have:

CovCath

LexCath

St. X

Male

Shelby County

Owensboro

Christian County

Elizabethtown

Ashland

Can we add Painstville? I'm thinking yes, but I don't know.

Any chance Hazard has won all three?

Runners-up in football twice.

Hazard never won baseball.

Manuel:

Football - 1959, 1966 (Went undefeated in 1936, 1938, & 1948 if we're going to include the pre-state championship years as citycat did with St. X's VERY impressive list.)

Basketball - 1921, 1923, 1925, 1931

Baseball - 1947, 1952, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1962

Gracias Senor.

.......

How many schools have won all 3 this century? Clearly the list gets dramatically shorter. Either way, cool topic, and an amazing feat.

Oh, in the time it took me to type this post St. Xavier in Louisville just won another State Championship -- Congrats Tigers! :D

Corbin has won titles in football and basketball, not sure about baseball, although I know they were runner-up to PRP once.
