Williamsburg has some good young players. I believe that they start 2 freshman and play a couple of others and maybe an 8th grader also.

 

I can understand Haynes' frustration when you look at the makeup of the districts in the 13th region. He is in the same district with what will probably be two of the top three teams year in and year out in the region and the other school has approximately four times as many students to pick from. Then you look at the other district that he could have been placed in, it has 3 class A size schools and the other school has only won 10-12 games combined over the last 2 years.

I don't agree with what he did in not playing the district games, but he probably thought that he was doing the right thing for his kids.

I agree with you. I THINK I would have played the games but Coach Haynes has taken ALOT of abuse, been called coward and gutless. Seems like it took alot more courage to say yea I dont agree with this alignment and we are not good enough this year to compete so we are not going to play instead of playing Corbin and South twice and letting his kids get beat by probably 250 points.

I agree with you. I THINK I would have played the games but Coach Haynes has taken ALOT of abuse, been called coward and gutless. It got a little too personal at times.

At least it is finally coming to an end. Wburg will play South and Corbin next season according to their Supt. He informed both schools this week. That would imply a new leader and one who thinks it is in the bet interest of the program to compete. The playing or not playing was not an issue in a lean towards a new direction. Summer camps, conditioning, practice time and overall coaching seem to be the deciding factors. No way that Wburg team I saw last night should have only won 2 games. They have some talented kids. Something went astray somewhere along the line.

Anyone that thinks SL had to beat them by that much to stay focused and on top of their game is crazy.They have more competition is practice with each other than the game with WBurg.No since in embarassing those kids like that.

I don't feel as though the Williamsburg kids have anything to be embarrased about, they competed hard, played with sportsmanship and represented their school well!

 

They played like WINNERS to me.

I was at the game. It was over in the first half. The starters played about three minutes into the third before the subs were put it. Yes South did press pretty much the whole game but the subs really don't get a lot of game time. If in the next few games a starter goes down the subs need to have game experience doing what South likes to do press. I am just saying I feel he was just letting his younger players press just incase they need to go in, in big time game.

Although I don't agree with what Coach Haynes did I can understand it. Would you want to be beat that way once in a season or 3 times? Ask yourself how would your child feel about getting beat like that 3 times in a season. Most 1A schools (perhaps some private schools, but that is an entirely differnet topic), are not going to be able to compete with 4A schools, sure every once a while a school like Williamsburg will have a good season and might luck out and beat a South Laurel for their one bright moment in what will surely be years of long seasons playing in their district. Williamsburg has somewhere around 200 boys to choose from to play basketball in grades 9-12 while South Laurel and 4a schools have that in one grade a lot of times. Then you have to take into consideration that many of those boys are dedicated to another sports program and choose not to play basketball. 1A just can't compete with those numbers, sure some years they may have an up year and they have some players to put on the floor but most years they will have players starting that would not even be on the team that 4a schools have. There is good and bad with small schools and IMHO Basketball should really be treated like football and broken down into divisions, but hey I could be wrong.

They have made it to the finals of tha All A on at least two occasions.

Actually I was talking about all 1a schools and Williamsburg was my example, perhaps I wasn't clear enough and I am sorry you are feeling ill.

 

and if I am correct Williamsburg is a 1a school playing in a 1a football district where they should be doing better.
