I ageee you need good assistants, but it starts at the top. A good head coach can make up for a bad assistant, but a good assistant cannot make up for a bad head coach.

Good head coaches can't coach every spot, but having outstanding assistants can make up for a head coaches weaknesses. The truth is this. Good head coaches hire great assistants and that combined with good football players and an admin and community that supports its football program equals an outstanding program. It really does take a combination, no one part is greater than the whole. With that said, Corbin will be fine with whomever they hire...that is the reality!

It's hard to say Corbin will be alright. A bad hire and they are 3rd in a district that their fans believe they should win year and year out.

Back to the point about assistant coaches chuck smith, french, and i believe this may be true of Hilton also, these guys worked with mostly guys all ready in the system when they arrived, and made them good assistant coaches. It is no secret that Boyle co, anf Bell co, both barely new where the football field was before these guys showed up. And the same can be said for Lincoln co, befor french came. It starts at the top. So if Corbin hires a dud coach or someone without experience, i dont care how many good assitants they have it will not go far. And why wouldn't they get the best. They have the support an money, why would you take a chance on an unknown. That is what Kentucky does with thier football, so far ir aint working.

They are going to go with someone they know. I am willing to bet my paycheck that they aren't even considering anyone without Corbin ties.

I keep hearing Reid, who coached at Union College, Mike Holcomb, Justin Haddix and Frazier's names mentioned. If they stay within the school, Mouser seems to be the favorite.

How can you say that Lincoln County did not know where the field was before French went there? Have you forgotten about Larry Phillips and his teams? Included a state runner up in 1990. Or Marty Jagger's and his teams? Including a state runner up in 1993 AND Mr Football Jeremy Simpson? French was good for Lincoln. But his teams did not accomplish what others did.

Corbin expected to make their coaching choice today, announcement to come Friday or Monday.

JMO, Haddix is too young for a job like Corbin and would get eaten alive.

 

My only experience with him when it comes to coaching is him rubbing me the wrong way when one of his players knocked a kid out for a few plays and he was, (at least in my opinion) going a little overboard with the celebration with the player that laid the big hit, even yelling "getcha' some" loudly (this is while the kid is on the ground being attended to).

 

I know this was during one of his first years coaching and is something that could be totally out of character, but it rubbed me the wrong way and if nothing has changed, I'd have serious doubts as to whether he'd be someone who would exhibit the kind of professionalism that Corbin administration, boosters, and parents would expect. That said, winning cures all and he's probably putting together quite a resume for himself if he's even being considered for the Corbin job.

 

To be clear, I'm not saying Haddix is a horrible person or anything like that. I think he was most likely a young, enthusiastic coach who got caught up in the moment (and maybe didn't even realize the kid was being attended to). I'm just saying that schools like Corbin, Pikeville, Hazard, etc. might be more of a "wine and cheese crowd" when it comes to EKY football and that things like this would be a bigger deal than they are at a basketball school with little gridiron success like Perry County Central.
