Who would you say then 4chs? I think someone with a Corbin tie.

 

Here are the names I have heard so far.

 

 

1. Tommy Reid, who just resigned as Union College head coach.

2. Frazier, who was at M'boro.

3. Michael Jackson, Corbin alum now at Ballard.

4. Scotty Russell, Knox Central coach and former Corbin Assistant Coach.

5. Hilton, why not, he has been mentioned everywhere else.

From Ballard? Is he from the area?

 

Yes, he was the QB at Corbin back in the late 80's and played at Centre College. His brother is in charge of Corbin's Middle School football program.

I'm a little iffy on Frazier but am willing to listen. I know he did well at Middlesboro last year but I am still remembering how he underachieved at Cumberland High in the early-mid 90's. Of course he was very young then so that can be expected. Basically, is he cut out for a big time job or would he be better served as being an assistant.

Guy does a great job with their middle and I bet he has been a varsity asst before. Probably better than most

I believe that he likes where he is at, probably would like to see his older brother move back to town though.

Jackson, Frazier both are great choices and have done good jobs where they are currently coaching. Personally I think Jackson should have stayed at Pikeville, but Ballard is a better job. Frazier has tons of experience and knows how to win. However, if I am the new Principal and being the football coach at Corbin in most minds is like coaching at Alabama, just ask Jewell. You never rebuild in most minds. If you want to think outside the box the go after a legend like Steve Bird. You do not have a better opportunity than now. If you say as a community that you want the best, then hire the best. Do not let this opportunity pass by and settle for second best.

Steve Bird would be a interesting option, but I'm not sure if he would have any interest or if he is qualified academically. He was, and may still be, living in Corbin to help take care of his parents who are in poor health.

At this point, I think anyone that would take the position would be under the gun. Remember this is Corbin, and Jewell pretty much had done all he could do. Being in 3A, was not good as good as 2A. They had built tremendous rivalries throughout the state in 2A from Middlesboro to the center of the state with E-Town/Larue/and Green Co. It was just good football. Throw in Somerset and Danville and 2A back in the late 90's and early 2000's these were great times for high school football. 2A is still solid and has competitive with competition, but 3A is very spread out and hard to build a schedule like in 2A. Just an opinion. I would be happy with Jackson, Frazier or Bird.

I think that they will hire someone with some experience that is a Corbin native.

Why not go after Hilton, he loves High School football, Corbin can afford Him, and any team he takes will win at least 3 more games than expected, he is that good. And with the kind of talent returning then if Corbin gets Hilton you beat Bell and Wayne no question. So do you go after the Lion or settle for a hyena and take your chances. Come o. Corbin bring back the glory days, the rest of the state misses you, go get Hilton and win 3 A next year. He took Bourbon from 1 win to State Champ in 1year. Send CSX after him, Corbin needs to return back to its rightful place.

my guess is they will look at someone with ties to Corbin or is a "name" without even considering someone totally outside of the loop. Sometimes, that can be a bad, bad thing.

In my opinion Hilton would be 1 that would not be under the gun . He has nothing to prove. He has done it all. Corbin would be top dog again no question with Hilton. Pun intended. Corbin owes there fan base. You talk about excitement around a program , the fans would be hanging off the overpass just down from the field, Come on Corbin get out of the box and remind everybody who used to could play in any class in Kentucky.

I think Coach Hilton is legendary, but like anyone you have to have a great staff. I think most fans do not realize that guys like Tom Greer an assistant that could have become a Head Coach many times have helped make Dudley Hilton what he is. No different that the many men that are still at Boyle County helped both Chuck Smith and Larry French Win, Win and Win. So with that being said when you have the right person in place then building a staff become crucial, maybe the most important thing done. (Randy Frazier) was on Dudleys staff at Bell and has built a great program back at Middlesobro. Do not walk to close to the ledge counting on Elvis?
