8th Region preview

Featured Replies

Weather permitting, the girls' 8th Region begins tomorrow night at Grant County HS.

First games are at 6:30 pm, second at 8:30 pm, per KHSAA.org However, the region tournament brackets prepared yesterday show the second game at 8 pm, which makes much more sense.

Monday 3/3/14 6:30 pm Simon Kenton (27-3) vs. South Oldham (9-15). Top ten SK figures to be a heavy favorite in this one, but South won't go down without a fight.

Monday, 3/3/14 8 pm Gallatin Co (19-7) vs. Shelby Co (18-9) Maybe the most interesting first round game between two quality teams led by "sister acts". Dossetts (Gallatin) vs. Raizors (Shelby).

Tuesday, 3/4/14 6:30 pm Oldham County (15-9) vs. Henry Co (12-14). Oldham is one of the hottest teams in the tournament, winning 12 of their last 15. Todd Gilley, coach of Henry County, may be one of the best in the business at getting everything possible out of his personnel.

Tuesday, 3/5/14 8 pm Anderson Co (24-4) vs. Walton-Verona (17-13) The winners of the last four region titles battle it out in the first round. Anderson (2013 and 2010) and Walton-Verona (2012 and 2011) should give us a treat of a game.

All games will be broadcast on the Pegasus Sports Network at The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN.

All games begin with a 30 minute pregame prior to tip of the first contest. Each broadcast will be LIVE and also archived indefinitely beginning the next day.

Tonight's games have been cancelled. They will be played on Tuesday at Grant County.

Will the games still be played at GC if they don't have school tomorrow?

I would assume so. The problem that Grant County has (when cancelling school), has more to do with the rural, back roads not being cleared. Getting to the high school from the interstate is rarely, if ever, a problem.

The 8th Region tournament will not be affected by whether or not Grant County does or does not have school, according to Grant County AD at the draw on Saturday. But, if tomorrow is cancelled, all first round games will be on Wednesday, hosted by district winners.

Does that have impact on officiating, since the boys are supposed to start regional play that day as well?

No, boys schedule is now Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday.

The re-scheduled games will not affect the coverage by the Pegasus Sports Network. The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN All games will be broadcast live and also archived indefinitely.

The girls first round games are now set for Tuesday and Wednesday; the semi-finals will be played Saturday, and the championship game is set for Sunday afternoon.

Hopefully, the games will be played as (re-)scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday and "Plan B" will not have to be implemented(!)

Games are on for tonight at Grant County. Good luck to all the teams!
