8th grade and freshman parents line the fields after early jockeying for the best place to park to watch tryouts forgetting to turn off your lights which are on automatic as you start the car to warm up. Oh the good old days! Your boy finally sitting in your car giving no inkling how practice went as you try to decode if he'll play freshmen, JV, or varsity. You sit pondering if the coaches know what positions he plays, what summer team he was on and where he batted in the lineup. Enjoy fellas, it will all be over way to soon, don't forget to ice those arms!

Glad that baseball season is back and that teams may be able to utilize turf football fields this week for tryouts with the warm weather and melting snow.

I have a freshman boy trying out this year (played last year as an 8th grader). Our typical exchange when I pick him up.

Me ..."How was school today?"

Him..."Good"

Me..." How was practice?"

Him.."Good"

Me..."Want something to eat?"

Him.."Chik Fil A would be great. Can I have a chicken sandwhich and a shake. I got a ton of homework..."

No word has as many meanings as "good" does to a high school boy.

Omg, I thought it was just mine that was word challenged. His favorite answer to everything is "good". We have learned to ask questions that require an answer other than "good" lol!
