February 17, 201412 yr Sir I have listened and even was willing to compromise with liberals. But as the years went by I learned that liberals just want you give in to them and they call that compromise, they rarely, more likely never compromise. Once they get one thing they just want another. In comparing JFK, who was a liberal for his day, Obama is a socialist/communist. If you have been watching the news you could not have missed the names that conservatives have been called by your liberal cohorts, which have been far worse than calling Obama a communist. Did you miss the one reporter who wanted to defecate in Palin's mouth? Sounds a lot worse than anything I have said. You are making my point. I said both sides.
February 17, 201412 yr Author Bluegrasscard. With you expertise on this debt situation a question. Could we actually cut the budget in that part that is not military, Medicaid and ACHA and with a growing economy of 3 1/2 to 4% come close to balancing the budget or are we just headed down the road of no return?
February 17, 201412 yr Author You are making my point. I said both sides. We know of statements by liberals in the media and even Congress calling those on the right names and making other derogatory statements. At the moment I cannot think of an instance were a Tea Party member or a Republican has made any similar statements about those on the left. Could you provide any examples such those that have caused some liberal commentators to apologize, be reprimanded or fired?
February 17, 201412 yr Bluegrasscard. With you expertise on this debt situation a question. Could we actually cut the budget in that part that is not military, Medicaid and ACHA and with a growing economy of 3 1/2 to 4% come close to balancing the budget or are we just headed down the road of no return? Well....the 'other line items' in the current plan already have substantial cuts built into the current CBO outlook. And the budget is still serious trouble. Here are the numbers. You can see that HHS (Medicare, AHCA, Medicaid, etc.) and Treasury (interest on previously accumulated debt) become the overall drivers of the budget. Veterans Affairs, Education, Transportation, Personnel (Federal payroll) all go up. But a lot of other things go down - Department of Labor, Agriculture (this is where food stamps are BTW), Homeland security and other civil defense actually are scheduled to go down. Also of note is that in that 5% slice of all other budget line items are: Department of Justice, Department of Interior, Department of Commerce, NASA and EPA. Some high profile (but relatively low cost to the budget) items there that often get tossed about in discussions.
February 17, 201412 yr BTW, the above is 'on-budget' items only. It does not include the large 'off-budget' Social Security item. Here is its actual (2012) and outlook (2018) values from CBO:

Social Security Administration (Off-Budget) $632,903 $1,042,413

So off-budget Social Security goes up around $400B between 2012 and 2018. Obviously that is the retiring baby boomers driving that.

Could you provide any examples such those that have caused some liberal commentators to apologize, be reprimanded or fired? Let's see the Missouri Senate candidate is one with his opinions on rape. There are others. Regardless, you just don't get it. Your opinion is that conservatives are 100% correct and anything liberal has to be bad. I just don't see it that way. There is room for compromise or is that a bad word, also. You are looking for common ground if I agree with you on all things, just not the case. I wasn't only talking about politicians. Just carry on, no longer wasting my time. Not worth it with closed mindedness.

Couple weeks ago a Tea Party wacko called for Obama to be executed as an enemy combatant. Statement was made at a town hall forum in Oklahoma. Jim Bridenstine is the congressman's name. Saying that such occurs only left vs. right sounds more like an indictment of your choice of "news" websites.

Never heard of this Bridenstine. I recall one myself. Was his name Joe Wilson that called Obama a liar?

It was actually a lady in the crowd at a meeting that made the statement, according to the article I read. Some people later became upset that he did not more strongly condemn what she said.

Obviously that is the retiring baby boomers driving that. Even with the elimination of AHCA there is a gap. That would mean going back on promises made to people about retirement, which would be wrong, to help balance the budget. How fast would the economy have to grow to help raise enough money to balance the budget?
February 17, 201412 yr Here is the 'Receipt' side of the equation. Notice how individual income taxes are the major driver to 'on-budget' revenues. Notice how this varies with economic cycles.

How fast would the economy have to grow to help raise enough money to balance the budget? I just posted the 'revenue' side of the equation. The answer to question above is this - there would have to be a historical boom to the economy that is unprecedented. Hauser's law has always held - even in varying tax rate environments. This economic law indicates that tax revenues will be around 17% of the GDP. The current outlook by the CBO assumes a booming economic cycle that is unprecedented - at the budget is still not balanced. Here is a graphical view of the CBO numbers. Quite simply - their outlook - that stills falls short of having enough revenue to get to a balanced budget - is a pipe dream.

Based on what you have presented, I guess I'm hoping for something that is not highly probable. Yet, we do need to come as close as possible to balancing the budget as we possibly can.
