Dixie Heights 2014

Featured Replies

Dixie’s team this season returns a lot of experience off the 9th region runner-up team from last season. They only graduated 3 seniors last year and had a number of sophomores that were in starting roles. Those now-juniors coupled with the senior class should put Dixie in the running for the regional title this year.

It is hard to predict a lineup or rotation at this point since the final roster will be in flux. There are roughly 30 players (juniors and seniors) that have been in the program who will be trying out for the varsity team. In the past the varsity team has only carried 18-20 players. There will be some very tough decisions for Coach Maxwell and his staff to make in the coming weeks.

The Colonels have also added Coach Bieger to their varsity coaching staff.

Caple, King, or Wehrle can launch one at any moment. Daria will always be on the base pads. Kid knows the game and can play, 1,4,5, & 6. Dixie will never be out games with those sticks. I have seen Daria, King, and Kerns throw great games and I expect Werhle to make the biggest improvement from last yr. I don't want to slight anyone, those are the ones I know, they will be a contender for sure.

If Wehrle picks up where he left off I. Summerball he could have a ton of RBI's. He was crushing the ball near the end of summer ball last year.

Another member who never seems to get mentioned but is a workhorse on the mound, is Nick Niehaus. He pitched the complete game 2 -run game against Beechwood last year in the regional semis.

I was told he was hurt and might need surgery this summer did that ever happen or was it just bad info?

Injured his elbow a bit during the summer but did not require surgery and is doing fine now.

Nick is doing just fine and barring any end of the season issues from the last 2-3 weeks of hoops, he will be 100% going into the baseball season.

Dixie will be loaded IMO and with a great coach in Maxwell at the helm, it should be a another big year for the Red Colonels.

I'll throw out another pitcher who gets even less props, Mitch Anderson. He may have been used against mainly lesser opponents last year but undefeated is undefeated (7-0, I think)!

Dixie's rotation will indeed be loaded.

Keep your eye on Royce McGee this year.
