The Thoroughbreds (22-3) earned another big win following four days of rest after winning the All “A” State championship on Sunday.

NewCath has won 15 in a row. The Thoroughbreds have tough regular season games left against Covington Holmes and Louisville Trinity.

The visiting Mustangs (19-3) came into the game having only lost to Paducah St. Mary in the first round of the All “A” state tournament and Holmes, 74-51 on Dec. 10. They are 5-2 against 9th Region teams.

Zack Pangallo continued his scoring tear with 20 points to lead NewCath. Post Drew McDonald added 19.

The Thoroughbreds do not play again until Wednesday. They play host to Bellevue (10-9) at 7:30 p.m. to wrap up 36th District action.

I was really hoping it would be a close one. Congrats Breds!

 

Game was much closer than the final score. Breds would get a nice double digit lead and Brosaart would cut into it several times. Breds were up 46-40 to start the 4th quarter and Brossart had the ball. Quickly it was back to double digits and that's when Pangallo took over. He played a whale of a game defensively than in the 4th drove, scored or drove and dished. Weyer has a nice touch. McDonald had a nice quiet game, didn't realize he had as many points as he did. Schulte altered a ton of shots. Breds are a solid, well coached balanced team. Really neat to see the entire Upstate Carolina hoops team there to watch Schulte play. They go against NKU tonight.

I agree with Mustang that Burns was on a mission last night.

Good luck to the Breds and very nice touch honoring Dennis Schierer for his dedication to hoops in Campbell County. He started the parochial school league 51 years ago.

For all these years I never knew he started this league. This league has seen a "boatload" of talent in that many years.

Breds are very good. Play together exceptionally well. Tall and long in every position. Apply great pressure, contest everything.

 

Pangallo too quick for us late.

 

Was proud of our contentiousness for three quarters but ran out of gas in the fourth.

 

They are a load.

 

I thought that Drew Burns may have played the best game of his career.

 

Burns played like a warrior! He battled against the trees all night and didn't give an inch. Just too much size and Pangallo quickness for the Mustangs to overcome. Code throw everything except the kitchen sink to try and keep the Mustangs close to near the end.

I did get a chuckle out of the "Brokeback Mountain" cheer, have to admit it was funny.

Brossart did come back with "let's go run". Cross country state champ bragging rights. Great student sections having a lot of fun. Great atmosphere.
