Whitley County Coaching Search

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if Whitley County has an internet connection that far out, but if they do could someone try to relate some info on who they're looking at for their next coach? The job opened in November and only posted to the KHSAA job opening site on January 24th for what could be the longest coaching search in KHSAA history. They have been turned down by Pikeville's Dudley Hilton. The latest is that Somerset's Robbie Lucas has interviewed and the ball is in his court. Is anything new?

It was offered to Dudley Hilton but he backed out. Coach Lucas at Somerset is suppose to get an interview. Heard he wants it.

Lucas has already interviewed. WC administration is still awaiting his decision. Who will they target if Lucas doesn't accept?

Not sure thats who Whitley should go after but good luck.

Didn't know he had already interviewed. I knew he was suppose to interview but didn't know that he already had.

Maybe Holcomb at Letcher? If none of them get it, does Whitley ask coach Black to come back?

What makes you say that? I personally don't think Whitley's "that" good of a job anyway. Who would you recommend?

I think they have let the smoke clear. So what they have gone after some good coaches. Dudley tests the water every year and test his stock, Paul Rains is always testing the market, and both of these guys are winners/get results. Coach Lucas from Somerset is also a great young coach that inherited a program the was in good shape, but a tough place/as well as tough place to Win. All these coaches are worth the offer. Problem is the under current from all the negativity that surrounds the program. If Black is allowed to stay then the undermining will be tough to overcome. Personally, I would like to see a guy like Mike Whitaker, David Hensley or Clark Teague get a shot. All of these guys have done a good job where they have been, and understand the seriousness of Mountain Football. Mike Campbell is the AD/Past Coach understands what has to happen for the program to move forward the four letter word (WORK), but it is time to hire and quit playing Dodge Ball and put the HOUNDS on the Schedule. The right coach could make this 100,000 gate all it takes is hiring a winner and putting the old coach on the road.

My Whitley connections tell me that a coach will more than likely be named within a week. I kind of expect them to hire an experienced coach as a temporary fix with one of their assistant coaches as kind of a coach in waiting.
