Cameron Reed - Eastern

In three games this week, Reed averaged an impressive 20.67 points per game. He started with a 22-point performance in the Eagles' impressive overtime win against St. Xavier on Tuesday. He followed that up with yet another 22-point performance in a victory over Southern. He then scored 18 in Saturday's tough 53-56 loss to Collins. His consistently excellent play has been a big key in Eastern's resurgence this season.

 

Kevin Kirby - Waggener

Waggener played a very tough schedule last week and it showed. In losses to Trinity and St. Xavier, Kirby scored just 5 and 6 points, respectively. But the sophomore forward gets a player of the week honor this week thanks to his outstanding 18-point, 18-rebound performance in Waggener's victory over Fern Creek, helping the Wildcats avenge their one-point loss to back on Jan. 14 in the first round of the LIT.

 

Craig Owens - Trinity

With the Shamrocks' powerful 6'9" forward Ray Spalding nursing a foot injury, Trinity looked to senior forward Craig Owens to take up some of the slack. Owens more than answered the call. He demonstrated an increased comfort with his unexpected new role as the week progressed. He began with an 11-point performance in the Shamrocks' 71-51 victory over Waggener. He then put in 14 in Trinity's road win over Madison Central. He capped his excellent week with a masterful 15-point, 18-rebound game as the Shamrocks completed a three-victory week against Bardstown.

DuPont Manual at Waggener, 7:30 pm

Waggener is a very young team that just hasn't quite gotten over the hump this season. Manual might well be considerably better than their 13-7 record would indicate, having been on the wrong end of several close losses in recent weeks. This matchup will give fans a good idea of just how capable either might be of progressing to the Seventh Region semifinals.

 

St. Xavier at Male, 7:30 pm

Male is coming to down to the final moments of being able to salvage what can only be considered a disappointing season on Preston Highway. St. Xavier, on the other hand, can lay full claim to the 26th District and wrap up its position as the heavy favorite to capture the district come March.

Ballard at Eastern, 7:30 pm

Any time these two get together, it's can't-miss basketball; it's especially so given Eastern's resurgence in recent weeks under second-year coach David Henley. The Bruins will provide a stern test to this renaissance in Middletown and give observers a chance to see just how much things may have progressed. It almost certainly won't be the last time these two rivals square off this season as they'll likely meet to contest the 28th District Championship in a month.

Admission is $8.00 adult and $6.00 for students. Looks like a great day of basketball with some great players, and some of the best teams in the state.

With as good as your team is this year you have shown great restraint with your compliments of them. Most of us can only wish our team was as good as Trinity this year. It has to seem a little unfair that you have to go thru Ballard to get to Rupp but I honestly think they get them next time.
