February 2, 201412 yr Elam is a 5 star by 247 sports which I have never heard of. Rivals, Scout and ESPN have him 3* or 4*. The KSR boys threw out a lot of false hype yesterday which is sad. UK still has the best class they have ever had since people have begun rating classes. You've never heard of 247 Sports? :thumb: I really like 24/7's composite rankings, I think that usually ends up being the best indicator when it comes to rankings. Of course its not fool proof but nothing is when it comes to recruiting. I love the fact they go the extra mile for their site, not only by doing the composite, but also the depth they cover the athletes (timelines, crystal ball, etc.) It's those things that are making 24/7 rise to the top, and in short order. I was also predominantly a scout (basketball) and rivals (football) type of guy but I'm starting to give 24/7 a lot more attention than when they first came out. For those that don't know 24/7 came about from some of the rivals sites such as Cats Pause. Jerry Meyer the longtime Rivals head basketball scout works for the site, as well as some other well known industry names.
February 3, 201412 yr I think where some of the confusion is coming in comes from the fact that the star system hasn't been around very long. Had it been around in Couch's days, he'd easily be the most highly rated recruit in UK history (unless there's someone in the 50's era I'm forgetting about or something).
February 3, 201412 yr KSR mentioned the disparity in rankings between services...where was the false hype? The false hype was from at least 3 of their writers stating that he is the first 5* in the history of the school.
February 3, 201412 yr If Micah Johnson was ranked #9 overall, how was he not a 5 star? Was he the DE that played for them in the 90's? If so I always thought that was the highest ranked recruit they ever had.
