Triple-Header on the "hill" this Friday, Frosh @4:30, JV @6:00, & Var @7:30.

 

The Breds (10-0) return home fresh off the championship of the Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery Co. While the ladies from Highlands come into this game sporting an 8-2 record, and were runners-up in the LaRosa's Hebron Holiday Classic at Conner this past weekend. Can the Birds handle the "two-headed monster" of Alexus Mayes & Nikki Kiernan or do the Breds succumb to quickness of Coffey, Adler, & Graves?

 

What say you?

I'll be takin' in this "trifecta" of games on Friday, got a niece on the frosh squad, plus the bonus.........RCC9 will be in the house. Now if we can get paNDA there to take pictures all would be right with the world. :clap:

Me say....

 

I think NCC is playing as good as anyone right now. For that reason, I think it's going to be a huge challenge for the young Lady Birds. Especially if they play like the first half of the Brossart game. That was the worst I have seen them play. They had two key starters in foul trouble most of the game, but they still played bad!!!! If they play anywhere near that level in this one, they may see a running clock!

 

So because my team (HHS) is young and unpredictiable this year, here's my lists of "ifs"...

If the birds shoot well from the outside, they have a good chance. When they are hitting from the outside, they can play with anyone.

If the birds can stay out of foul trouble and defend the paint, they can be very competitive in this game.

If the birds handle the NCC pressure, they can make a run.

If the birds can keep the rebounding reasonably close, they have a shot.

If the birds pressure defense can cause issues, they have a shot.

If HHS is tentative and doesn't shoot well, it will be a very long night for the lady birds.

 

NCC is very good and playing well. I have been a fan of their game after seeing them play earlier in the year. However, I don't think they are unbeatable. The Dixie game ended up a pretty large margin, but was pretty close late in the game. If not for a late back-breaking 3 against Boone, Boone would have had them on the ropes. But a good team found a way to win in those games.

 

Because this is such a rival...if the young birds can keep it close, anything can happen. The birds tend to step it up in big games. (not sure what happened in the Brossart game) But my feeling is our girls will battle in this one, keep it close and maybe hit a late shot to win the game up on the hill!!!! (I have a lot of "ifs" in there and I did say "maybe"!). But I know they will battle til the end and I want to think positive!!!!

 

Good luck to both teams! Hope both teams come out of this one healthy! This rival always makes the girls play a little harder and that always worries me with injuries.

Nice Title IX Prime Time game that has to compete with the Boys team playing away instead of having a night to themselves.:banghead:

I've seen both these teams play and this is a no contest. Highlands has zero answer inside for the NCC bigs. No chance. Highlands will get one shot only on their end and NCC will get multiples on their end. NCC will name the score. NCC is better at every position on the floor without question.

Both play on Fri. & Sat. The NC/Highlands girls game will be a better game than the boys vs. HC (with all due respect to Holy Cross). I'll get my fix of the boys on Sat. ....Triple-header at Beechwood.

Wow!! Did one of the HHS girls beat you in 1:1 at the armory or something??

 

How did Boone play with them? Was a very close game til the last two minutes?

 

If I'm not mistaken...you're a Brossart fan. And if the game you saw of HHS was that game, I couldn't agree with you more. But I also watched the Sacred Heart and Boone games. So I know they can play. In fact, I bet the next Brossart game may even surprise you. You saw the absolute worst game I've seen this group ever play when they played Brossart. And brossart only beat them by 12 with one player not there due to illness and two other starters in foul trouble most of the game. Including our leading scorer. I suspect that next game will be much more competitive.

 

Better at every position...not sure I believe that. In fact, thats kinda comical. But thats your opinion. Mayes, Kiernan and Ware are nice players. And Kiernan is a HUGE part of why others can find success. When you have to focus that much attention to one player, it does tend to open things up for others....wouldn't you agree.

I think this could be a trap game for NCC. If my memory serves me right I believe they came out flat their 1st game back after the holiday tournament the last few years. While I feel NCC is the better team on paper don't cut the lady birds short. They are young but them girls can play. Would not surprise me in least bit if birds pull off the upset. If the lady birds can handle the pressure defense, shoot well and limit NCCs offensive rebounds they have a shot because the lady Breds have been known to struggle from the outside. I look for it to be a great game. Much love on both sides. :thumb:

Not a Brossart fan but a fan of the campbell county catholic teams . Question was to give your opinion and that is what I did. Similar to I believe when you were asked about attending Highlands /Collins state title game and giving one of reasons to not go because it would be a blowout. Did Collins beat you in a touch football game at Tower Park? Or was that your opinion. Just kidding but my reasoning is more based on highlands vs holy cross game. A team with 2 big girls that highlands didn't score a fg against in an entire first half. I consider NCC to be vastly superior to holy cross and the bigs to be at another level. I just feel it's a bad matchup for highlands to play a team with solid size. They are perimeter oriented and have only one girl I consider a post player. She is gonna get in foul trouble how could she not. I would consider nda a much better matchup for highlands. Even though state voters feel nda is superior. Just a matchup thing in my book. Hopefully it's a great game. Highlands is a top 5 nky team and there is a large gap between top 5 and the rest.

I agree with this. But the way you mentioned "better at every spot" and "NCC names the score"...I do not agree with. That's crazy talk.

 

As for the Holy Cross game, it wasn't the bigs that did the Birds in. It was the shooting. I believe they were like 2-23 from behind the arc and didn't shoot well for the entire game. I mean missed layups!...and won. We have faced the HC bigs and Ruffin from Sacred Heart...as well as some others along the way. I would consider Kiernan a big, but not anyone else. And yes, by far the best big we've seen. If you're talking about Mayes, I don't think we'd put a big on her if we had one. Kiernan is a matchup nightmare for anyone in the state. Bigs or no bigs. The rest of the team is better because Kiernan is on the floor.

 

I can tell you the key to the game is how quick the young birds put the nerves behind them and just play. If they don't figure that out quickly, then it will be a long game. If they come out with nothing to lose, NCC could get a scare.

 

The quick, fast and sharp shooting style of Boone caused issues for NCC (and that was with Schweitzer out with foul trouble most of the game). HHS is very similar, except HHS beat Boone by 12. If the Birds can get rid of the butterflies early, they will give NCC a game.

 

And for the record regarding the state football game, I said I have family obligations, as well as many other things. I did mention that all of those reasons compounded with the fact that the last 5-6 were blowouts was reason enough for me to not make the trip. Funny how things on here get taken out of context and used as the poster feels fit without telling the entire story.
