Second, how was this voted on? It appears the players were drawn from the teams in the quaterfinals with the exception of Cordia taking the place of Dixie as the 8th team.

 

And please note this is not a knock on Cordia or Christen Cunningham. Just a question of how this was decided.

No clue. I'm guessing all of the non semifinal teams had a total of 4 spots to fill the team with.

No clue but from what I saw of LexCath all 5 were deserving as they played some great basketball the whole tournament.

 

Plus, it is their tournament.

1st Place - Starting 5

2nd Place - 3 players

Semis - 2 each

 

Remaining 4 slots all to players whose teams won their first game and at least 1 more.

 

Whole starting 5 from the winners is probably just a way not to single out 1 player from the starters.

Hatton from Dixie ???

Hatton from Dixie ???

 

If Dixie did have a selection (which I'm not advocating they should) it would most likely by Hatton.

 

Hatton led Dixie with 34 in their 66-61 win over Henderson County. Then he led them with 35 in the 56-46 victory over Male.

 

In the KCC loss (54-52) he had 16 to lead the team. Although others like Daria (atleast 13 points) and Rabe (atleast 10 pts) contributed often in the game as well.

 

Then came the 53-49 loss to Manual where B only had 3 due to illness. Hedger led the team in scoring with 12 that game.

 

So over the course of the tourney he had 88 points in 4 games against some very quality competition.

I think this game and the forfeit was honestly what kept him from being on it. That and the fact that Manual took Lexington Catholic to OT and Sutton played so well. Cunningham played really well in the Warren Central and Newport Central Catholic games. It probably didn't hurt that one of his "off" games came in the loser's bracket, or that he was a guy who'd already made a name for himself primarily in the Lexington-Central KY area either.

I think the MVP award singled out one player?

I still think naming 16 to an all tournament team is a bit much. If they want to hand out that much hardware, just do a player of the game each game and than have an all tournament team.
