Eight Lady Stangs put ink in the scorebook led by Senior Abby Stadtmiller with 21 and her cousin, Morgan Verst with 11.

 

I was very impressed with first year coach Kara Jackson's young team. They did a lot of things right, played together well, and never gave up. The final score was no real indication of a game separated by no more than five points for the majority of the 32 minutes played. They were led by Caarly Lange iwth 18, and Mackenzie Senvisky and Aimee Jump with 10 each.

 

Panda was in the house with his trusty camera. I am looking forward to checking out some of his fine work when he posts it.

 

Brossart returns home to take on Mason County on Wednesday night in the refurbished SyDome.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it was a pretty good game to get the season going.

 

One thing that stood out to me in your summary is the large difference in free throw attempts. The way the 9th region officials have called games in the scrimmages I have watched and in the Boone/Holmes game last night, I don't see how a team could only get to the line for 12 free throws. Perhaps Ryle was not aggressive enough attacking the rim and the paint. Just a thought.

 

Sounds like free throw attempts was the main difference in the game.

Read in an article that Brossart has beaten Ryle 6 straight times. That is a shocking stat for a school the size of Ryle to not be able to handle a school the size of Brossart. How is this even possible . I would bet Ryle cuts more players than Brossart gets to even come out to play.

So, is BGH not doing his always objective game recaps this year?

A lot of very good young talent on the floor in this game. Ryle starts 4 sophomores (Lange, Jones, Schwartz and Jump). Bishop Brossart gets good minutes from three sophomores (Schultz, Shannon and King).

 

But Bishop Brossart has a number of seniors that they can lean on early in the season. Senior Abby Stadtmiller lead Bishop Brossart to the victory tonight.

Brossart should have a great season. They have a really nice team!

 

I am a little surprised this game was this close. Not the final score, just the commentary that the game was actually closer. Ryle has a bright future, but thought the Brossart's veteran team would have handled them. Nothing against either team, just curious.

Great pictures of some great young ladies on both teams! Thanks to panda for going to games and getting those shoots. hope you get in free at least ?

 

Ryle will be fine, but there are going to be some major growing pains! They play a fairly tough schedule and there will be a lot of losses, but they will do better than people expect. Someone mentioned what a big school Ryle is and yes they have plenty of girls come out for basketball, but only 5 can play at a time. And, the environment for development of a younger player to turn varsity at Ryle hasn't exactly been prime during these past few years. There may be plenty of talent on the team, but their varsity experience level is very low.

 

Looking at the starters from Monday, only two have any significant experience and that's not much. Senvisky has played varsity for 4 years, yet saw limited playing time, never been a regular starter. Lange became a starter last year as a freshman only after Storer - also inexperienced - had season ending injury. Lange then shared the starting spot for the remainder of the year with another player . Schwartz started getting in some games halfway through the year, not getting significant minutes until tournament time. The other starters Jones and Jump only played very briefly in a few varsity games last season and not a lot of J/V either. Also, none of Ryle's players were permitted to play up as middle schoolers.

 

Looking at B B, those girls have been wearing green a long time for the Mustangs, lot's of experience at that upper level and it showed. On Monday some of the younger varsity players were key in both the J/V and the Varsity wins. They will improve with all of that time on the court, and continue to be a force!
