I have seen a Sutkamp and Wrobleski on the same team before. Check NCCH back around 1955-56 you will find Dr. Jerry Sutkamp and Frank Wrobleski (grandfather to Thomas Wrobleski) on the same.

 

 

NCC quarterback Mac Franzen and stud LB Jack Sutkamp both live in the Fort and both came up playing in the Ft Thomas Jr Football League. It is my understanding that Franzen was teetering on being a Bird probably more than Sutkamp.

 

Just for Gits and Shiggles how freaking good would these two studs have made the Birds offense and defense?

 

I think Franzen would clearly be a highly recruited WR if he was a Bird and Sutkamp alongside Wobleski would have made the Birds LB corp clearly the Nastiest in the state.

 

Franzen has stepped into the role of QB and done quite well. Sutkamp has only put up sick tackling numbers all year. Breds fans should be very thankful at these two young men are with their program. Either way they both likely would be playing for rings next weekend.

The better question may be how many juniors and seniors at Highlands are going to be on the sideline for a state title game when they could be on the field during the game winning another one if they had attended New Cath?

I am not knocking any of these kids. I am sure they are very proud of being a Bird and worked their tails off just like the starters. Oldbird may be right about there being no second thoughts because winning cures all. I still say there are likely more than a couple who wonder at times what they could have done if they would have been a starting player elsewhere.

I actually think you would be shocked the other way. . I think if you are a football player Dale gets you on the field. I am not sure how many kids there are at Highlands getting no time that would be starters at NCC. Dale plays a lot of kids.

That's a good point. Player rotations and blow out wins get players on the field. Another factor is these kids bleed Bird Blue and just wearing that uniform is a great source of pride. However, if I weren't a sure starter, I would think long and hard about what I wanted out of football. If being a starter is important, I would go to New Cath. And just to be clear for anyone who may not know, I am not a Bird or Bred supporter. I am just throwing thoughts out there. I have seen kids choose the big school and then not have half the career they would have had at the small school from a personal playing time side of things.

It could be said for a lot of the kids that are rotating in and out and would like to see the ball maybe thrown to them more or on the defensive side getting more snaps. However, these kids have slurped down the Kool Aid and they are willing to accept those situations to be on a perennial state champion playing for a great coaching staff.

No doubt. And when it is all said done and ten years from now someone asks you about your high school career, holding up a hand full of rings is proof you were a winner regardless of your role. There is a lot to be said about all those experiences along the way and that may be better than being a 1,000 yard rusher or the starting QB.
