dolamite
Wow what a night of fights last night! Since the actual event threads usually only get a few posts I was hoping a UFC thread would be more appropriate to discuss. Last night had to be one of the best cards I've seen possibly ever. The Sanchez/Melendez fight was a war in the late rounds! Dos Santos/Velasquez III didn't disappoint either.

halfback20
I had to work so I didn't get to watch. I was hoping JDS would get the title back, but it appears it was a pretty good fight.
dolamite
I had to work so I didn't get to watch. I was hoping JDS would get the title back, but it appears it was a pretty good fight. Yeah even though I like Cain it was my hope Cigano would catch him again and take the belt back. Velasquez worked a solid game plan and pretty much did the same thing he did in the second fight. JDS had an easier time stuffing the take down this go around, and stayed pretty fresh into the championship rounds. In the 3rd or 4th one Cain finally landed a big shot like he did in the second fight and that was the beginning of the end for Cigano. He has the heart of a champion though, I haven't watched a fighter so determined and so eager to finish no matter what. I mean Herb Dean had his hands on Cain and everything he was that close to stopping the fight but Junior hung in there and eventually recovered enough to still throw stuff with some heat on it. But in the final round he was just so tired, his punches still had heat but he went for a choke, almost got it, but when Cain shook him off he fell down on the top of his head and knocked himself out for a second basically. That's what ended the fight, wasn't anything Cain did in the moment (although the punishment JDS had taken earlier likely contributed). Still though epic fight, just like the second, perhaps only more entertaining.
dolamite
The main talking point from last night though was the Diego/Melendez fight. Holy cow! It turned into a war in the third round. Gilbert had basically outclassed Diego for two rounds and then Diego came out guns blazing in the third. Instead of playing it safe Gilbert just said come on and the two basically went Korean Zombie/Leonard Garcia for the entire round. I mean they painted the canvas quick once the leather started flying, not sure how either was still standing. Made me really respect Melendez because he could have easily coasted to victory but said he wanted to give the fans what they wanted to see. In the end they gave us possibly the greatest fight of all time. Joe Rogan said it was the best he has seen, if that says anything. It was the best five minutes I've seen in the UFC, no doubt! DragonFire
Remember when UFC didn't seem fixed? I can't believe they gave GSP a decision tonight. Hendricks battered him. I mean IMO utterly destroyed him except for the 5th round.
dolamite
I feel bad for Johnny Hendrix, he really got robbed tonight against GSP. Fought a good fight and took it to GSP like no one has. GSP acting as if he may retire after the fight, bizarre ending. Overall though great night of fights for the 20th anniversary. Rashad Evans def. Chael Sonnen (TKO) Robbie Lawler def. Rory McDonald (split dec.) Tyron Woodley def. Josh Koscheck (KO)

No way GSP got more than two rounds, I would give him two with a gun to my head but not sure if he even got those. Still you need three to win the fight not sure where that came from. DragonFire
I agree, great night of fights, and even with the decision I really enjoyed the last fight. It's just that they totally botched the result. And that's a real problem. That's one of the reasons people soured so much on boxing - the judges. The state commissions hire the judges not the UFC so you end up with a bunch of boxing judges that has no clue about mma. They are just looking for a check. People don't realize what it takes to be an elite fighter, its a grind every single day. Every day you're pushing yourself to the limits, takes a strong person. dolamite
Likely the most anticipated rematch (fight) of all time going down Saturday in Vegas, Silva/Weidman II. Also Rousey/Tate II, should be a great one to finish off the year.
