Fox Creek Christian 2013/14

Featured Replies

Yeah, I know, we are just a little independent Christian school, non-KHSAA...but what the heck, I'm gonna throw out some team info and get some of my kids a little recognition.

This will be the 7th year for Fox Creek basketball, the program started and still coached by Coach Danny Vernon. Fox Creek will be a senior lead team this year, with no less than 7 on the roster, with at least 5 seeing significant playing time.

The Knights will be lead this year by 6'1 swing man Sr. Dakota Sallee. Dakota was the teams leading scorer last year averaging over 24 points a game. They will depend on him this year to do the same, and also look for him for rebounding as the Knights will be small again. Dakota will play anywhere from the 1 spot to the 4 spot, depending on matchups, making him Mr. Everything for the Knights.

A new addition this year will be 6'1 Sr. Dillon Ramsey. Dillon is a deadly 3 point shooter with some size. The Knights will depend on him to play the 5 spot while also figuring out ways to get him the ball behind the arc. They will rely on his bulk to bang the boards and rebound and to protect the middle on defense. The Knights will also look to Dillon for scoring.

Playing the 2 guard will be 5'10 Sr. Robert "Bubby" Geiser. Bubby is a good shooter who can extend the defense beyond the 3 point line and had a hand full of games over the past couple of years where lit it up from downtown. For the Knights to be successful this year they will need more of the same.

At the point will be Sam Laytart. Sam is a starting defensive back and running back for the Anderson County football team and won't join the club until later in the year...possibly much later if the Bearcats make an expected deep run into the playoffs. Sam is the team leader and defensive stopper. Very aggressive on the defensive side of the ball, sometimes too much so, fouling out in several contests last year which GREATLY hurt the team in 3 or 4 games. The Knights will need him on the court if they are to live up to their potential.

Sr. Brody Brisco and newcomer Sr. Blake Long will both vie for time at the 1 and 2 spots.

There are several Freshman who look to possibly get some playing time in some varsity contests. The very small but lightening quick Daniel Whalen will get some looks at pg. Ultra athletic Zack Rice will see some time at the 3/4 spots, and hard playing good shooting Dalton Lewis looks to get some valuable minutes on the floor as well at the 2/3 spots. 6'3 freshman Justin Richie has the height and frame to do some damage one day and looks to get some spot time in games, but he's about a year away from being able to contribute.

Fox Creek has the ability to win a lot of games this year, and to take the league title again for the first time in 5 years. It could be a bright year for the Knights if they can play to their potential.

Who does Fox Creek play? And is there a tournament or showcase event for schools like this?

How does that work? goes to one school for football and then the other for basketball? I know Fox Christian is not KHSAA, but seems like an odd setup.

I kind of misspoke in my first post. Fox Creek isn't actually a school, we are a church based independent basketball program, but not actually a school. All the kids go to Anderson, either the high school, middle school or one of the elementary schools for the younger teams. We do have one kid who plays this year who lives in Frankfort. All are required to attend service once a week at Fox Creek during the season to be eligible to play. It's an outreach program.

We play non-KHSAA Christian schools, of which there are several around the state. There are two organizations, the KCAA Welcome to The Official Web Site of The Kentucky Christian Athletic Association and the KCSAA KCSAA.NET - Kentuck Christian School Athletic Association that these other schools/teams can belong to (we don't belong to either not technically being a school). Many people are not aware of these two organizations. We have/do also go out of state and play small public school in other states, such as OH and IN. Outside of scrimmages, KHSAA schools are not allowed to play us. If they could I would try to schedule some of the smaller ones. We will scrimmage Bath Co. and Berea in November, and will probably scrimmage another small public in Jackson at the Riverside Pan-O-Rama. There is also a small local Christian league that the team plays in that existed long before we started this travel program.

I posted our schedule on here somewhere a few days ago, titled I'm gonna be busy...check it out to see what we have scheduled.

I don't see how they could be eligible to play in any KHSAA event (football or any sport) at their current (Anderson Co.) high school if they play basically "club ball" during the school year.
Nice write-up. :thumb:

I agree - good info on a program I had never heard of.

And I would agree that at least 5 will see significant playing time.

They couldn't play for us if they played hs basketball. However, playing basketball for us has nothing to do with playing football. Not to mention they don't come out to us till football season is over. They don't have to do that, more for the fact of they don't want to take a chance getting injured on the basketball court than anything else. Heck, MANY of the school athletes who don't play basketball for AC play in the local Christian church league, and some of the teams play "out of league" games as well, though nothing like what we do.
