Boogie signs max extension with Sacramento

Demarcus Cousins announces he will donate $1 million of his new contract to needy families in the Sacramento area

Great gesture. Not something he had to do by any means. This, the shopping with underprivileged Sacramento children at Christmas, seeing him sign and/or give his game gear to kids after games, etc. is what makes me genuinely think that, Cousins is a guy whose a big kid at heart, and deep down, is really someone with one of the largest hearts you'll meet when it really comes down to it.

I'll honestly be surprised if he's a guy who winds up on the police blotter for something like a domestic violence incident or something similar. Not saying that the absence of that makes him a great person, just that with the image that's projected onto him, you'd think it wouldn't surprise others.

I can't imagine being a guy like him or Shaq who takes so many cheap shots (see: Dunleavy being a *cough* Duke *cough* punk and cutting his knees because that's the only way he stood a chance). It's kind of frustrating to see referees punish him because he's big (think the Cornell game, where if the situation with the "hard foul" at the end were reversed, he'd have been T'd up in a heartbeat).

With all of that said, here's one of my favorite Cousins moments:

Disagree 100%.

I just go by the eye test. I genuinely believe Cousins has some mental issues that have been intensified by his upbringing. That does not negate him being a kind or gentle heart person.

My feelings as well.

From my view it is from immaturity and a strong competitiveness.

I think "mental issues" may be a little strong. I'm more inclined to agree with Goldie's post above.

He's an emotional guy who does immature things and should learn to harness his temper, but I don't think he's someone like Delonte West or Michael Beasley who both legitimately suffer from bipolar disorder. Not saying that West or Beasley are bad people, because they obviously have some issues that at least help me understand why they might act erratically, but when I think "mental issues", I'm thinking "diagnosed with a serious mental illness".

Maybe it's just a matter of syntax.

Cousins and Wall both sign max extensions in the same offseason and both donate $1M to charities in their cities....These two really make me proud to be a UK fan. Just awesome!

Yep. Very cool :thumb:

He may be misunderstood, but he is still a head case.

With Shaq on board in Sac he might be able to give him some advice. I hope his worth ethic doesn't rub off on Boogie though.

His talent and production is way to good to pass up, they really had no choice but to offer him the max. I have my doubts if he can be that #1 or #2 option on a really good team.
