Trinity Insider for the week of September 13

Featured Replies

Trinity heads into Friday’s home game versus Colerain of Cincinnati with a 1-2 won-loss record. The Rocks dropped a 17-13 decision to Lawrence Central in Indianapolis this past Friday. This follows an opening game 27-26 loss to Ensworth from Nashville and a 42-35 victory over Carmel, IN last week.

The Trinity offense has registered total yardage of 365, 411, and 291 in their three contests. The defense has allowed 346, 244, and 219. The Rocks’ Achilles heel has been special teams miscues. The turnover bug bit Trinity in their loss to Lawrence Central. The fact the Rocks have been competitive in every game and in position to pull out victories is a testament to their talent .The coaching staff will continue to discuss correcting these issues. The Rocks are learning more each week and will remain a force in the Kentucky 6A title chase.

Colerain is ranked number 1 in Cincinnati Enquirer poll and comes to Louisville with a 2-0 record. The Cardinals ran over Cincinnati St. Xavier 31-19, for their third consecutive victory in two seasons over the Bombers. Colerain senior QB Kelvin Cook racked up 184 yards rushing and two touchdowns while completing 4 of 5 passes for 84 yards against the Bombers.

Colerain defeated Park Vista of Lake Worth, Florida in their season opener 45-27. Kelvin Cook rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. Senior DeTuan Smith carried the ball 26 times for 223 yards and two touchdowns.

Colerain runs a veer attack or triple option and will severely test the Shamrocks run defense. The defense has shown improvement with each week. Trinity’s passing attack will need to be more successful for the home team to earn the win over the Cardinals.

Trinity Tidbits:

Trinity QB Reggie Bonnafon is expected to have his voice back for this week's battle. Trinity was forced to use a series of hand signals to trigger the offense against the Bears. The last time Trinity's offense allowed 2 safeties was the 1975 11-10 playoff loss to St. Xavier. The game with Colerain is the fourth consecutive game against a first time opponent for the Rocks. Trinity has scored in 210 consecutive games dating to October, 1998.

Opponents Update:

Trinity’s first opponent, the Ensworth Tigers, raised their record to 2-0 as they defeated Chattanooga Brainerd 55-13 on August 30. Ensworth was off this past weekend. They face Pope John Paul II of Henderson, TN at home this weekend.

Last week’s opponent, Carmel; fell to Indiana 6A top ranked Center Grove 35-26. The Greyhounds will play at Lucas Oil Stadium this Friday. They take on the Lawrence Central Bears.

Future opponents: 5A Indianapolis Cathedral, is currently 1-2, with losses to 6A Ben Davis and 6A Warren Central. Cincinnati Moeller is 2-0 with wins over CovCath and Indianapolis Pike. 6A district foes Male and Manual are 3-0. Louisville St. Xavier is 2-1.

Nice update. Thank you. The Rocks need to execute better at the ends of games. I think that will come. I could be wrong but my impression is that they have been playing a lot of kids on defense. This will produce depth, of course. Before the season, I would not have been surprised with a 0-4 start. Didn't want it but it was not unreasonable to expect it.

I think if T's defense can stop the run they should be just fine. Colerain is very good but very run driven.

Stats, is that you? Just kidding. Just sounds very much like an analysis Stats would do.

I think Trinity is a great team but are showing the loss of last year's seniors so they have returned to the level of mortality. Colerain is such a powerful team, I think T will have its hands full.

Good stuff and thanks for the info on the T opponents.
