September 25, 201411 yr Do you lose any video quality when you copy them into mp4 format or m4v format? Nope. With HB's setup, it sounds like he'd have to connect the HD to his PC each time he wanted to add a movie. You can keep the HD connected to the PC and use some type of streaming app to get from the HD to the TV.
September 25, 201411 yr Do you lose any video quality when you copy them into mp4 format or m4v format? No, don't lose any of the quality or at least nine that I have noticed. After I have all the movies ripped using MakMkv I then use handbrake and finally just so I can have cover art etc I use MetaX which works great. Then copy the movie to my external HD which I have a 2tb HD and that is hooked up to my Roku 3 via usb. The Roku is hooked to my tv using HDMI cable just like you would a Blu Ray or HD DVD player.
