July 7, 201313 yr If an announced checkopint keeps one person from driving and drinking that night how is it pointless? I didn't say it keeps people from drinking, maybe they just take a different road to wherever they are going. I can't stand when people drink and drive and I'm all for a severe punishment and everything but I don't like how checkpoints are often done. I know of the checkpoints I've been held up in they don't check every vehicle so what's the point if they are gonna only half do it?
July 7, 201313 yr So if cops often do checkpoints as some say, then why do they not just routinely do door to door stops and check on people at home? Not search their house but just stop by, knock on the door and see what the person is doing?
July 7, 201313 yr I've not been stopped at a checkpoint or even seen one in over 2 years. There are a lot of people in this country. I'd say more than a few haven't been stopped.

July 7, 201313 yr Author I think there is a huge difference in what you are saying. Police can't search your vehicle without cause at a checkpoint. They can pull you over without cause (ie a checkpoint) and then arrest you for being drunk. My analogy is the same thing with a different method of illegal search and a different crime.

For those that are cool with checkpoints tell me which felony crime you would NOT put in the statement above and then tell me why it's not to the level of drunk driving.

They're stopping and checking everyone on a public road, not in their private residence. To pull one person over on a traffic stop an officer needs PC.
