The "big dance" is here for KY Baseball! Here is the schedule of games for the first round. What are your predictions/comments about this year's field. 11 of the 16 teams were in the final state Top 25 poll. Central Hardin and St. Xavier look like the favorites at this point, but anything can happen as we always see in this tournament.

 

Monday June 3

11:00 AM- Apollo vs. Mercer County

1:30 PM- North Laurel vs. Prestonsburg

6:00 PM- Henderson County vs. Letcher County Central

8:30 PM- Collins vs. Tates Creek

 

Tuesday June 4

11:00 AM- Ashland Blazer vs. Pleasure Ridge Park

1:30 PM- St. Xavier vs. Logan County

6:00 PM- Harrison County vs. Ryle

8:30 PM- Lone Oak vs. Central Hardin

 

All games played at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, KY.

All times Easter Standard Time

Pulling for St. X, hopefully they can finish their season with a victory.

 

PRP is always a dangerous team during tournament time.

Apollo v. Mercer Co. is a toss up, but the winner will be favored to advance to the Final Four.

 

Henderson Co. is exceptionally dangerous, and they can save their ace for the Tates Creek/Collins winner. Tates Creek is probably the favorite against Collins, but not by much.

 

PRP should advance to play the winner of St. Xavier/Logan Co. St. Xavier looks as good as anyone coming into the tournament. Can Logan Co. pull a big upset? Because St. Xavier hits the ball so well, Logan Co. will need to score at least 5 runs against a very good pitcher in Melchior, which is very difficult to do. St. Xavier pounded PRP 12-0 earlier this year.

 

Central Hardin appears to be a slight favorite in a very tough bottom of the bracket. Lone Oak and Ryle have won 30+ games, and Harrison Co. is coached by a man who has won four state titles and nearly 1000 games. Going to be tough for Lone Oak to beat Drew Harrington, but Lone Oak can hit the baseball.

 

My final four is Apollo, Henderson Co., St. Xavier, and Central Hardin.

Its up for grabs.... ANYTHING can happen...!!!

I see Henderson County and St. Xavier meeting on Saturday night for the championship. They played earlier this season with St. X winning 3-2.

Looking at the bracket, is the winner of the upper bracket the favorite on Saturday?

 

The winner of the lower bracket has my vote. If you can make it out of there with teams like PRP, St. Xavier and Central Hardin then you deserve the title.

I agree the lower bracket is tougher and that is why I am wondering if the upper bracket may get an advantage - possibly have better pitching available on Saturday. That lower bracket competition is going to take its toll on whoever makes it to Saturday.

I'll go with Mercer County, Henderson County, PRP, and Harrison County in the final 4.

After watching Apollo not being able to field a bunt and Mercer only scoring three earned runs, I wasn't impressed with either team but then again Prsetonsbug didn't impress me one bit either as two of the three runs they scored were via a PB and a bases loaded walk!

 

Looking forward to watching PRP, St. X, Ryle, Harrison County and Central Hardin play on Tuesday.
