May 16, 201313 yr here is an update from a couple weeks ago. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20130429/NEWS0103/304290074/Efforts-continue-Union-Town-Center From the article: Costello said he will give Union leaders an update on the project at the May 6 city commission meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Union City Building, 1843 Mt. Zion Road, Union.
May 17, 201313 yr So I am sure this question may have been asked before and I am hoping someone will be able to answer again. A different thread got me to thinking, why are there not more restaurants, businesses, etc. on all of that land and road between Walgreens/Library on out to Ryle HS? Do the people who own the land want to much $ or are they not willing to give it up? Just seems like there would be more businesses along that road for the people in Florence/Union.... I didn't read all the responses, but I can tell you some reasons there aren't more restaurants etc. in Union on 42. 2 of the reasons are this, They will not or at least for awhile did not allow drive thru's for places for the longest time unless they got special permission. This was only allowed for the places on Mt Zion. also they did not allow for signage that were off the ground or over a certain size. The city of Union really imo screwed up. There were plans several years ago to build a big shpping, and eating place on 42 just past the library. It was going to be a really nice place sort of like Rookwood. A lot of nice restaurants, shopping, park, fountain etc. but the city turned down the plans because they wanted to build up the Mt Zion area and reserve that for retail space. The city really missed the boat on that one. Most people in the area do not do their shopping down Mt Zion and instead simply go to Krogers on 42 or the Florence Mall. Bascially it comes down to Union not wanting a lot of commercial businesses outside the Mt Zion area therefor there really isn't any attractions in Union and it's their loss.
May 17, 201313 yr Here's a pretty cool & informative interactive map. It shows a lot of the property available for development as well as what it's zoned as... UNION TOWN CENTER DEVELOPMENT
May 29, 201313 yr There is going to be a "Flip Daddy's" in the old Blockbuster on 42, right next to the Union Library. There are two locations already in Ohio and I've only heard good things.. Flipdaddy's Burgers & Beers
December 20, 201312 yr Well, people are at least thinking about the Union Town Center... http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/20131220/NEWS0103/312200084&site=AB
December 20, 201312 yr Yesterday I saw a group of people next to a new sign where the old nursery was. Commonwealth Orthopedics and St. Elizabeth Health Care.

Flipdaddy's Burgers & Beers We have been several times, it is very good and always packed for dinner. Has to be hurting Barleycorns and I imagine Beef O'Brady's is on life support.
December 21, 201312 yr I didn't read any of the links, but some places don't want strip malls and such, and behind done of those homes, like in Mason Ohio. Do the housing developers own the land facing 42? Plus, it's not far to the nearest strip malls.
December 21, 201312 yr I imagine Beef O'Brady's is on life support. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't imagine them hanging on against Barleycorns and Flipdaddy's. It's a shame, too. I think there's room for a clean little pub there, I just don't think Beef O'Brady's is it.

I think there's room for a clean little pub there, I just don't think Beef O'Brady's is it. We used to go there every Saturday for lunch, but the service (when the owner and his wife weren't there) was AWFUL. I gave it one last try, had a chat with the owner's wife about our recent experiences, and she could not have cared less. Never went back. Thankfully Barleycorns opened about a year later.
