There are a number of top performers from N. Ky. who are in position to win based on seeding.

 

Good luck to all the performers but a special wish for good luck to Beechwood's Chad Evans, seeded #1 in the shot put.

Interested to see how Bardstown's Victoria Yocum finishes out her career. She's projected to win the 100 and 200, and is projected fifth in the 400, which she won way back as an eighth-grader, before blowing out her knee. That she's come back to be this good is a great story. Outstanding athlete, outstanding student and a great kid.

Most interesting race to me is the boys 800. No Jacob Thompson means that all of the NKY kids have a shot.

This will be an outstanding race! The regional 800m looked like a NASCAR race with rubbing and bumping all the way around.

Congrats to NCC's Sam Barth for winning the boys 800 single A race in a hard fought battle with Brossarts Michael Caldwell. Michael was a state champ today too anchoring Brossarts 4x800 relay.

 

Eric Baugh of Villa, who has had some great runs the spring was state runner up in the 1,600.

Am I reading the results correctly? Did Jacob Thompson from Louisville Holy Cross break Bobby Curtis' record in the 3200 by over 5 seconds (Curtis was THE MAN in XC and distance events when my daughter started)? Winning the event by half a minute? And his own state record in the 1600?

Yes, he did. That kid's been a lot of fun to watch over the years, both at state and in our region. Just a machine -- conjures up images of Ivan Drago, minus the PEDs.

Congratulations to Bardstown's Victoria Yocum, who finishes up with a state title in the 200, giving her a bookend to her career after winning the 400 as an eighth-grader! She almost had a daily double, but was passed toward the end in the 100. Way to go, Vicki!
