SK had a 15 point lead but let Conner back into the game during the fourth. The Cougs cut the lead to 7 as the Pioneers failed miserably from the line, but the fourth was a different story ask SK scored 22 to seal the deal. Great game from Elbert tonight with 21 and Hurd tallied 23. Next up for SK is CovCath, should be a good one.

Simon Kenton also had the members of the 1981 KSAA state champions on hand to be honored at halftime. There was a 15 minute standing ovation as they were introduced as the 9th regions only state champs in basketball!!

 

I am still frustrated by the foul shooting of the Pioneers, it reminded me of the Boone County Game all over again. Simon Kenton makes their foul shots and they win by over 30. :thumb:

 

I am still waiting for Josh Hurd to be more of a finisher around the basket.

SK needs to come out of the locker room at halftime fired up. IMO

I've seen about 10 games and I can't figure out why they struggle to hold a big lead. They've had nice leads over Scott, Dixie, Grant, Walton (1st game) Boone and now Conner. I would love to see them bury a squad once they get a double digit lead. Elbert played a very aggressive game, made some great plays on defense by defending the pass and took it strong to the rack. Josh could have had 30 easy tonight, needs to play stronger but I can't complain about 23 points. Now the ft shooting wasn't as bad as the BC game but I believe they missed six or seven in a row with a seven point lead. I think coach Steiner made his point during a timeout because they really had a nice 4th quarter.

They had a nice finish of the 4th quarter. Conner cut the lead to 6 with the ball and then turned it over with about 4 min to go and then they went on their run to end the game.

Ironic that the 1981 team was honored when Conner was the opponent. SK lost 5 games in 1981 and 2 of the 5 were to Conner.

 

Heckuva team - fun team to watch - not a lot of "great" b-ball players but they were all good at what they were supposed to do and all athletic.

Not only did they lose 5 games to NKY teams that year, they almost lost in the first round of the district to Walton and would have missed the regional tournament all together.

A lot of people, myself included thought Walton was just as good as that SK team. I think it was a shame that two schools 6 miles apart had to have great teams the same year!! :thumb: :thumb:

Well as of late CovCath's problem has been playing a good 1st half, but they always tend to take the lead in the 3rd quarter. Should be a great game.

 

Hurd had 23 but couldn't finish? I remember a few weeks ago when he did nothing against Dixie. 23 against Curry is big improvement from minimal points against a small Dixie squad.

Yeah they pretty much buried Walton in that game. Not too hard to do however. Walton had more TO's that game than points........and that is not a joke.

That was definitely Walton's year. Walton will never see another talent pool like that come through.

WV was pretty good in '90, we had a nice team and they blew us out of our own gym.

 

As far as Hurd goes he was solid but he still needs to find that "Mike Brock" mentality.
