If you all haven't noticed it is the year of the Panda in girls sports. Why should softball be any different. Just give my girls the trophy and get on with it.

Let's say the winner is not NDA, Ryle, Boone, or Conner that wins.

 

Who would be the most likely to survive the region tourney?

 

St Henry due to pitching?

 

I would say St. Henry, Highlands or NewCath. St. Henry does have the best pitching of the three, however Highlands did beat St. Henry 8-6 and NewCath scored 10 against St. Henry in an 11-10 game (according to KHSAA scoreboard). Both Highlands and NewCath seem to be able to hit good pitching most of the time and both seem to have decent pitching and defense. Therefore I would go with any of these three teams as a dark horse to win the Region if one of the top four teams doesn't. I would not count Holy Cross out either. Their pitching has definitely improved this year and they have a POY canidate in Moran. She can do it all, plays great defense and can hit with the best of them.

I agree, but unfortunately, Moran and NONE of her teammates were nominated by the HC coaching staff from what I understand. If true, that is RIDICULOUS!

I am confident that the team that wins will do so due to little things the other team(s) do to give them an advantage. Mainly that's errors throwing to wrong base, dropped balls etc.

 

I look at the teams mentioned at runs given up per game. This is what I see.

 

Ryle 2.33 per game

ND 2.50 per game

Newport 2.85 per game

Conner 3.58 per game

St. Henry 4.04 per game

New Cath 4.27 per game

Dixie 4.50 per game

Highlands 4.85 per game

Boone 5.04 per game*

 

 

Boone's stat is misleading because they gave up 54 runs in three games. I assume Dallis wasn't pitching those games. Subtract those three and Boones line is 2.88 per game.

 

 

THEREFORE, if you are looking at this stat, the favorites should be Ryle, ND and Boone, all under three runs per game. Newport is there as well but looking at their schedule, I am not sure you can really compare them. That is not meant to be a negative comment regarding their pitcher cause she can only pitch to who is on the schedule. There you have it.

With all due respect to Newport, you should replace them with Holy Cross. Holy Cross should make the regional tournament. Newport has a chance just because they have a good pitcher, but they have not played the schedule that all the other teams listed have played, and if they are seeding this year they will have to beat Highlands or NCC to get in the regional. They are seeding this year, correct?

didn't newport only lose to NCC 2-1? Isn't that who they will play in districts?

 

all numbers can be misleading. HHS has beaten Dixie and NCC twice and beat st henry in their only matchup.
