Seriously though he does put a lot of real news stuff on there and you never know.

He is a bright dude and probably some of the stuff has merit. But for all the whacky stuff out there he probably has a huge following that believes any crap he throws against the wall in the hopes something sticks. It leads to an even more skeptical society than what we already have and I believe can prompt drastic actions by some. Not saying these Boston loons were Alex Jones listeners, but you can see how his message could cultivate within that culture.

That's part of the problem. It's been my experience that everyone I've ever met that's into the conspiracy stuff is also quite clever. For someone who's bright and has the feeling of being put upon by forces outside his own control, there's an appeal to the notion of having knowledge that other people don't have or of "being in the know" while everyone else is fumbling around in the dark. It's an idea as old as human institutions, the notion that somewhere out there is some secret gnosis that will reveal a secret history, orchestrated by secret forces that explain why things don't seem to move where you want. It's a comforting feeling to believe that all the horrible things that happen in the world are orchestrated by powerful organizations rather than suffer the reality that the world is chaotic and ever-changing.

 

It also gives the conspiracy theorist the experience of critical thinking while actually engaging in the pseudo-scientific exercise of beginning with a premise then molding the evidence to fit the theory rather than using available evidence to construct a real narrative. I absolutely see the appeal but it's not a search for real truth so much as a reflection of personal philosophy.

As much as I enjoy criticizing Obama I have to say that I can find very little if anything to be critical of in the way he has handled this so far. I reserve the right to change my mind based on future actions, particularly if it is determined that there is a Muslim connection to these terrorists and he tries to disavow it.

^ I don't know what sort of "Muslim connection" you might mean, but if the bombers are in fact from Chechnya then odds are they're going to be Muslims. Chechnya is OVERWHELMINGLY Muslim.

What I mean is that if any religious connection to this atrocity is determined and the administration tries to play it off as they have in the Ft. Hood terrorist incident (they call it workplace violence) I will become critical.

President Obama is what is known as a head of state. In some countries--England for example--this position is divorced from the head of government; the Queen is the head of state and the PM is the head of government. In our country, the chief executive is the head of government and the head of state.

 

Part of being the head of state is that you are, from a foreign policy stand point, the representative of your country in terms of goodwill, diplomacy, etc.

 

Therefore, it would have been a huge international relations faux pas in this case for the Russian head of state to not publicly offer condolences to the American head of state. The heads of state of other countries will likely do the same.

One of the bombers should have been deported in 2009 for a crime conviction. One had a playlist of at least 22 videos on youtube supporting Islamic terrorism and violence against Americans.. I guess the DHS was to busy investigating veterans and right-wingers to bother with this..
