Best Catchers

Featured Replies

I would be somewhat suspicious of someone touting a 1.8 sec high school pop time unless it has occurred at a Perfect Game camp or something similar. 1.8 is a very good time for a major league catcher, much less a high schooler. I suspect this falls into the same category of every fast high school school runner automatically running "4.6" or a high school pitcher that throws hard automatically throwing in the "mid-80's." Certainly not saying impossible by any means, but I'd be curious to know the basis for crediting some catcher around here with a 1.8 pop time.

Go to Prepbaseballreport.com under Kentucky players Tanner Norton's pop time as recorded by college and pro scouts was 1.83-1.85

OK, define best catcher? How many throw outs to 1st, 2nd and 3rd? How many hits does he have? How many RBIs? Lets look at all assests of a player. Remember JB / Johnny Bench? Oh, and remember GPA? All things should be considered.

I can not believe that the Hatcher from PRP is not in their he has a 3.8 GPA he is the best blocking and framing catcher around his pop time is always under 2.0 and he is hitting in the hi 3 or low 4 this year.

I think Nick Pope from Cov Cath is one of the top catchers around. Kid blocks and frames really well. His best pop-time was clocked at 1.89 and guys just don't steal on him. His only down side is that he is a very streaky hitter. Like Jay Bruce, he'll be the best hitter one month and the worst hitter in the next. Still a fantastic catcher though

Very amusing! Please refer to TOG's stats on steals and E's.

lol!!! all this talk about "pop" times,is really funny. the kid could have a pop time of 1.0,but if your pitcher is slow to the plate, your probably screwed!!! most of your bases are stolen off the pitcher, and most of you guy's know that.big key.....have pitchers quick to the plate,[slide or drop step] and developing pitchers moves to first.being around as long as i have,it amazes me how many kids think they have to step off the rubber to throw to first.and most schools don't try to correct it. don't see many schools teaching the turn-step an throw from the rubber.only school i know that worked on the slide step al the time was beechwood.now i guess it will be boone county. anyway...botom line, pop tines don't mean diddly if your pitchers don't help!!! just my opinion!!!! later gators!!!!
