Not sure if Somerset is overrated or if they didn't take Burgin seriously. Either way there is no way the #5 team in the 12th Region should only beat Burgin by 7.

 

They should have pounded it in to Williams and Weddle. They had to have shot less that 25% from 3 but they kept shooting it and hardly looked their big guys way.

Should be able to high low those two against most teams and just keep feeding the post...or not, and just keep jacking them up.

They kept jacking them tonight. And kept missing.

I do need to be fair and after having time to think on it I do want to say that Alex Beckerson and Nick Beckerson from Burgin gave Somerset all they wanted. Those two did the heavy lifting for Burgin and looked to be every bit as good in the paint as Somerset was.

 

Burgin played their 5 starters the whole game until Nick went out with an apparent ankle injury. If Burgin had some steadier hands at guard they very well could have won this game. I believe their point guard had 6 turnovers in a row at one point in the 4th quarter and they were still in the game.

 

I also think if the referees had called the technical foul for taunting like they should have at the tail end of the game then we may have had a different outcome as well. How a kid can dunk on someone and then stand over him and yell at the kid he dunked on and not get a technical is strange to say the least.

Burgin's problem last night appears to be their same problem every year. They have good players, just not much depth. It really takes its toll when they play Somerset and/or Danville in the All A, or Mercer County/West Jessamine/East Jessamine in their district. But for a school so small, they put forth a pretty good team almost every season.

From the way it sounds, the Briar Jumpers will have to give a better effort to make it to the All "A" Classic.

A win is a Win is a Win. The Jumpers will be ready for Danville Friday Night in Briar Patch. Somerset played like they had game won before it started and most of the time that means trouble. Give Burgin credit they had a Great Game plan and did a good job keeping the game close. Somerset has to use big people better, wing people need to be working on feeding post from now until Season is over. I agree that Wedle should have had a T Called after the Dunk. It would not have changed outcome of Game.

FYI, I've heard that the Danville/Monticello games (both girls and boys) scheduled for tonight at Burgin have been postponed to Wednesday night due to the threat of severe weather. If anyone can confirm that and would like to start a new thread, please do.

Never know. 2 free throws and the ball could have meant a 5 point swing with 20 seconds on the clock. Who knows what might have happened.

 

I expected to see better from Somerset. Danville has gotten better since the last time they faced each other.

If they play the way they played last night they will get Beat. But if the Team Shows up that Beat Jackson Co, on Road (without Williams) Clinton Co. 11 and Harrison by 18, they will beat Danville. Going Away!!
