4. Southwestern(13-5)

5. Somerset(12-5)

9. Lincoln County(7-11)

10. Danville(5-11)

Players of Note:

Ronnie Carson-East Jessamine- Ronnie Carson recently had 30 points for East Jessamine as they pulled off the upset against Wayne County at Wayne County and then followed that up with 29 against McCreary Central.

Taylor Gover-Pulaski County- Taylor Gover has been heating up recently and is a strong reason for Pulaski's recent success. He had 24 points in a win against Southwestern, the game winning/sealing points against Lincoln County and went for 31 against Louisville Collegiate in his most recent games.

Peyton Woods-Wayne County-Peyton Woods has been starring for Wayne County all season long. He went for 25 points in a win against Clay County and went for 17 points and 9 rebounds in a loss to East Jessamine. Peyton is averaging 17.6 points and 5 rebounds so far this season. He is also shooting 83.5% from the free throw line and 43% from the 3 point line as well.

David Kapinga-Southwestern-David Kapinga has been the bright spot for what is not yet a disappointing season for Southwestern but they have a few losses they might not have anticipated. To their credit they have lost to good teams and Kapinga recently went for 22 in a loss to Lafayette and 18 in a loss to Pulaski County. Despite their losses Kapinga is still a lot of fun to watch. Not many can match his quickness.

Brett Jones-Boyle County-Brett Jones has stepped up this season for the Boyle County Rebels and become their go to guy and floor leader for what some say is one of the best defenses in the 12th Region. He had 20 points in a recent victory over Lincoln County and made 15-16 free throws including 10-11 in the 4th quarter.

Russell Sims-Mercer County-Russell Sims scored a career high 40 points against Spencer County last Friday night and followed that up with 15 in a win against Anderson County.

Random Thoughts:

Jacob Conway has become Lincoln County's best player? Seems that way. Lincoln County hasn't reported their stats but he seems to be the scoring leader each game and his size and ability to score inside and out has created matchup problems. Lincoln County is better than their 7-11 record. They get my vote for toughest schedule in the region.

Danville is better than their 5-11 record but unfortunately too many people close to their program question their heart and effort on the court. For a decent group of seniors this season has been disappointing to say the least. Maybe they can turn things around at All A Classic 12th Region tourney at Burgin this week. We shall see......

Has anyone seen Justin Edwards this season? When he disappears, Southwestern does too. I'm not sure if it is him or coaching but he absolutely has to be involved in every game for Southwestern to be as good as they can be. Did he not play against Pulaski County last Friday? He was not in the box score.

Speaking of Pulaski County they are beginning to play some good ball right now. When their Big 3 is on the same page I don't think there is a better team in the region.

Wayne County may take exception to that and I don't blame them. Their only region loss is to East Jessamine and other than that they have been rolling along. The play of Peyton Woods, Corey Stearns and Trey Blevins has been a pleasant surprise and hasn't allowed Wayne County to sneak in under the radar. Coach Woods has this young team shining earlier than expected and many people in the region will be looking towards the outcome of the January 18th matchup against Pulaski County.

West Jessamine is another team that is playing some great basketball right now. Chase Fain and Daulton Peters are the two consistent scorers for West Jessamine and with the schedule West Jessamine has put together this season the Colts will be a very seasoned and experienced team that has seen it all come tournament time in February. Chase Fain is putting up 12th Region Player of the Year type of numbers. 18.2pts/game, 57%-fg%, 48%-fg%,83%-ft% and 8 rebs/game.

Will Hager of Mercer County is definitely up for Freshman of the Year in the 12th Region along with Corey Stearns of Wayne County. While never knowing what you'll get from Freshmen these two have been consistently good all season long and only look to get better this season. Both should have nice productive careers in high school.

Casey County is currently 8-9 and while they don't boast any 'good wins" they are having a season they can build upon and grow from.

Somerset is also looking for their first 'good win' to put them in the upper tier of the 12th Region. First order of business for them is securing the 12th Region All A title. I'll be checking them out tonight for the first time this season.

Garrard County has been disappointing so far. They still have time to turn it around and after watching them play against Boyle County all I can think to say is that they need to figure out how to play all 32 minutes.

East Jessamine scored a huge win against Wayne County last week. Ronnie Carson is starting to score and East Jessamine boasts the most wins to date in the 12th Region as well with 15.

Boyle County boasts one of the best defenses in the 12th Region and led by Brett Jones and Hagen Tyler(21-21 from the FT line this season) they have raced out to a 3-0 start in district and doing all they can to secure that beloved #1 district seed. With the 45th District Tournament at Boyle County this season the #1 seed and home court will be just what the doctored ordered for the Rebels. They are indeed working hard this season.

Amen.

Like District seeding, this should be mandatory statewide.

Amen to that. As you and I talked about the other night, way too many blown leads in the fourth quarter or poor starts that get them behind the eight-ball to start with.

After seeing Somerset tonight I feel like Boyle County, East Jessamine, Lincoln County and Mercer County would beat them.

The only time they would play any of these teams would be in the region tournament.

Somerset prob played the worst game of the year last night at Burgin. I think you have them ranked about right. And like you said the only time they have to play any those teams are in Region. I know Jeff Cotheran pretty well and he will have this Bunch hitting stride at Tourney Time. If Somerset takes ball inside they beat Burgin 20+.

So why didn't they take it inside? Good teams exploit the other team's weakness. I'm not so sure Somerset is ready to be in the upper tier of teams in the 12th Region. Seeing is believing. Even when they tried to get it inside they couldn't make a decent entry pass to Tyson or Weddle. Bounce pass.....?

I don't know why Not?? Aganist Estill Williams had 20 and Weddel had 14 and Somerset looked Great. I'm sure Coach Cothran is asking himself and his Team Why right Now!!!!

Justin Edwards has a bum knee right now. Nothing permanent, but he didn't play against PC and will be out for a while. But you're right, he's key to them being as good as SW can be.

Your gonna have Hades to pay with cellking for not putting Tyson Williams in your 5 players of note.
