I am thinking about making the trek down I-71 to watch this tommorrow night.

 

I am hoping this will be a real good game. I don't really know much about Oldham other than their record.

I didn't know they were playing tomorrow night, I wouldn't mind making this trip. I know you really can't compare scores but I think you can get a fairly good idea about a team by comparing opponents. Oldham beat Ryle by one in their first game, Grant by one and W'town by 25 plus. The game is a home game for the Colonels and it's a fairly long regular season trip for SK. I say SK by less than 10.

This could be an interesting match-up. Oldham has a habit of winning close games. I attribute this to the good coaching of Gary Forrest. He has a way of exploiting your weaknesses. For example, against Grant this year with the game tied under ten seconds he did not get the ball in the hands of his "best player" on that night, he knew Grant's weakest defender and ran the set at him. He got the foul and Oldham made the free throw for the Win. I have watched him do these things for years. He did it to Grant in regional finals in 03 when whoever Tyler Jones of Grant (all time leading scorer) was guarding would post up knowing Tyler could/would not stop them.

 

Oldham has a nice freshman point guard who will match up with Hester. They are not as big as SK, however, they are more athletic overall. They tend to get shots up and then crash the boards. This will be game of runs. Overall, I think SK is the better of the two, however, with the game at Oldham it will be close.

Simon Kenton has some good scorers and defenders in Schambach and Hester, I don't see anyone stopping them. I'll take SK in a close one.

Seth is suppose to be out for 6-8 weeks due to a bad back. I know he recently got a steroid injection into his back to deal with the pain. So you will see him on the bench in normal street clothes more often.

 

But other than that I do not know of anyone on Oldham's team that can compete with Phil Schambach, I will go to say that Phil is the Pioneers best player. He is definately the best defensive player and he is such a threat on offense with the way he can hit the three with someone up on him and drive to the basket either creating an easy 2 points for him self or he looks for the kick out. A very dangerous player IMO.

Koebel is actually only about 6'1 and is more of a swingman.

How can you not, Hester might be stronger in some areas of the game than Phil, but overall Phil is the best player on the team. He is definately the best defensive player, the biggest offensive threat whether it is passing or shooting, has the most heart on the team, and never gets down on himself. If Hester messes up in the game he starts shakeing his head and when he gets taken out it seems that him and Coach Steiner have words everytime. You will not get that out of Phil, he will listen to what the coach has to say and will go right back in the game and do what the Steiner tells him. If it came down to it I would take Schambach on my team over Hester.
