knightsdad Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 This game was never in doubt as LexCath extended a 10 point first quarter lead to 21 by the half. In the third quarter Mason showed some of the intensity they are noted for and managed to cut the lead to about 16 but it was a case of too little too late as LexCath went into a slight stall in the fourth quarter and regained control of the game. I thought Mason looked much better in the second half than the first and I think it was due to matching and sometimes surpassing LexCath's hustle. Number 21 for Mason seemed to get all the rebounds and carried a good bit of the scoring load too. On this night though (Homecoming) LexCath was not to be denied.
bcfan24 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Salsman really has Catholic playing well right now, and his winning percentage after the new year is pretty solid (between 65-70 percent at Bourbon in his 3 years). I think both of these teams, from observations I have made from seeing them once or twice this year, are very streaky. At times they are solid, and at times they are awful to watch. Both team should contend for their respective region titles.....
Tomcats7 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Interesting that Ashland only lost to 9 to LexCath, and around 20 some to mason county?
UNDERTHEBRIDGE Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Interesting that Ashland only lost to 9 to LexCath, and around 20 some to mason county? I think a lot of people think Lex Cath was drained from the Scott Co. game when they played Ashland, accounting for a close margin.
mhighfield Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Congrats to the Knights here,They have a very good press going in this one and was much deeper than Mason. The 1st half intensity i saw from the Royals was very depressing though as they just didnt come out ready to play with a team like LexCath.Second half was better but when your down 20 something at half on the road your in big trouble.I love the hustle and gut from Micah Turner everygame but the rest of the team has to learn how to do that or there not going to get it done in big games.Royals have struggled mightly since they almost knocked off Pendelton 2weeks ago i hope they can get there swager back this week and start rolling for tournament time in 6weeks. LETS GO ROYALS
mhighfield Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Interesting that Ashland only lost to 9 to LexCath, and around 20 some to mason county? Matchups could play a role and this game between Mason/LexCath has become a good rival.I know sometimes its easier to get pumped up against a rival .And the Tomcats might have played well that game im not sure i wasnt there.
swamp thang Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Having seen bothof these LexCath games, I could will make a couple of observations: LC certainly seemed lethargic against Ashland (porbably due to their tough game the previous night against Scott County; both teams press and run on offense which would takes it's toll). In addition LexCath continues to improve with each game as the football players continue to get into "basketball shape" and the entire team continue to learn each other and coach Salsman's system. This is to take nothing away from Ashland, but they did not see LexCath at their best on that particular day.
kyhoops#23 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Reid Brown will not play in either of next weekend's games against Cov Cath and Cincinnati Lasalle due to a football recruiting trip. That should have a huge impact on the Knights.
swamp thang Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 That's very true. He's become a strong presence inside. Where will he be visiting? Any idea?
Goliath Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I think a lot of people think Lex Cath was drained from the Scott Co. game when they played Ashland, accounting for a close margin. But Ashland played the night before too against Fairview.
swamp thang Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Again, I don't know how much the game from the previous nught made with Ashland. But it made a huge difference with LexCath. I know that you did not see the best LexCath team. That's all I know. If that's true for Ashland, also, someone that's seen them play more than once would have to reply. I can only make a comparison observation for LexCath.
UNDERTHEBRIDGE Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 But Ashland played the night before too against Fairview. A good point I can't argue since im going by other people's evaluation of the game.
newtyboy3 Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 That's very true. He's become a strong presence inside. Where will he be visiting? Any idea? He will be visiting Alabama A&M University. He was at Kentucky State this past weekend.
msjball4 Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Cornell Burbage will also not be at the games this weekend as he will be visiting Middle Tennessee State for football.
