I just looked at their over all schedule. I would agree that's very soft compared to other schools in the area with the same goals as Conner. Their out of region/conference games are not very challenging.

And some of these "other schools" play in a soft conference. Conner has just as many challenges on the sch as "other schools". They start Saturday with Tates Creek and a week from today at South Oldham tournament only to be followed by Conners own tournament with New Cath, Louisville Pleasure Park, Boone, and Highlands. Not to mention they play in what could be argued as the toughest district in NKY. So to say they play a soft sch just isn't true.

That's fine everyone can keep thinking what they want about Conner but as a Lady Cougar fan I couldn't be happier for the girls they are doing a great job and we will see whose where at the end of the season GO COUGARS!!!

 

Look, I dont think anyone is disrespecting Conner. I have watched them and they are a quality bball team. They play hard defense, they have some great athletes and they seem to be coached very well. (only saw one game)

 

This does not change that thus far their schedule has been pretty soft. They have played 6 KY opponents. Those teams records are a combined 14-18 with only two of the six having a winning record. One of the opponents has five of the 14 wins vs. an even softer schedule. That means that five of Conner's opponents so far are a combined 9-17. This is pretty soft so far.

 

The good news is they are blowing these teams out. I think Conner will benefit more when they get to a tougher part of their schedule. They need to be tested and have some weaknesses exposed, so that they might be real with what to work on and improve. This would make them even better and stronger come time for district play and tournament time.

Well said triplesevens, that is exactly what I was getting at. Boone and Ryle are in the same district and same conference so those things are equal, but out of conference appears much harder. Will it pay off for Boone and Ryle, only time will tell.

I think triple 7 and Ian need to look again at other schools sch. Highlands 4 less than par teams to play on sch.Ryle has 4 less than par teams. But you aren't calling them out. I understand that when somebody does well its human nature to try to cut them down. But it's not necessary to try to justify why a team is off to a great start by saying its because of a soft sch. Conner has won 7 games its a long season with plenty of good teams still to play.

Conner has some nice tools and Coach Stamm, like all good coaches, will figure out how to piece them together to make a very solid club by tournament time. Stamm put this schedule together for a reason and he has shown a very good aptitude over the years to bring a club along at just the right tempo. Will they win the Region, doubt it, but you just never know.

I gave Conner credit. Read my post again. I said, "Conner is a quality team. They play hard defense, have great athletes and seem to be well coached." Also, I said "they are blowing out people." Obviously they need some harder competition, or not as soft of competition, to get even better. That is a compliment. Let me say it again. Conner is so good they need much better competition to be tested and get better. How is that? Now can you all come out of your Cougar Den and give me a hug?

Ryle's opponents thus far record is 8-17. If you want to add Ryle's next opponent combined record of 10-22.

 

Highlands opponents thus far overall record of 16-18. Not as bad as Ryle's but don't tell me Coach Richey is staying up late worrying about S. Oldham,Montgomery Co, and Woodford combined 4-11.

 

This was brought up by talking about soft sch. Plenty of schools that have hopes of state championship runs aren't playing top notch opponents every night.

Why is Ryle being dragged into this thread? To clarify, after Ryle's 5 games thus far, their opponent's record is 13-20. That is exactly the same record as Connor's first six opponents. For ease of comparison, if you count Ryle's next opponent, Jeffersontown, to make it six teams then their opponent's record would be 15-24. Not impressive, I agree, but several of those teams are traditionally good teams and all but one are out of region teams.

 

Ryle has made a habit of seeking out competitive teams and seldom schedule really tiny schools, because what good would come out of that? And the Raiders have at least 4 Ky top 20 teams left on their schedule plus tournaments where they could face Manual, Ballard, Mercy, etc. How many NKY teams can say that? Does it make a difference? :idunno:

 

How about some love for defending 9th region champs, Boone? The Rebels first six opponents have a combined record 29 - 8! Now that's a tough schedule! How about Brossart? Their first six opponents have a combined record of 9 - 25. And, NDA picked a tough road having Assumption and Walton in their first 3 games.

 

Kudos to Conner for their impressive start, and, yes, the schedule gets tougher! Don't get defensive, Cougar fans, when BGPers say they are looking forward to seeing Conner go head to head with some more competitive teams. If you guys are going to be a top team and toot your own horn about your success, then you can't expect to get a pass when you talk about the "tough match-ups" on your early schedule.
