How long for football kids?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what some of you thought about the issue with football kids playing basketball. Basically, how long before we can assume the lag between the sports is gone? Is it next week, first of the year? I see a lot of score threads that have the "football kids just got back" disclaimer. And I'm not in the least insinuating that it's not a factor, and don't want it to come off that way. I understand there is a period of adjustment and/or conditioning. I just wonder how long that will last?

I thought the Highlands kids looked pretty good for only having 3 practices. A few looked winded which is understandable but their shots actually looked pretty good.

Confusion on some offensive sets and out of bounds plays were obvious but it wasn't that bad like years past when we had kids dribbling off there feet, throwi g skip passes 8 rows up and bricking layups.

We have a few kids that play football too. You can still they are a bit "rusty" Usually by end of Dec or first of January they are in basketball mode.

I agree. After the players get the Christmas break practices in.

For some footballers, Christmas break is 8 weeks after they joined the bball team. For those that played in the state games - it is only 4 weeks.

Four weeks after football ends is when I would say the "excuse" is not valid.

I love football kids playing basketball and vice versa.

Bowling Green beat E-town Tuesday night @ e-town. The funny part? BG has more football players on the team and in key spots.

At one point last night the Birds had 4 footballers on the court at the same time. All of them had limited practice time, most only 3 days and one I believe showed up on Sunday for the shootaround so technically he had 4 days. They played pretty solid together.

Mac Franzen, Jake Haas, & Logan Neff should be on the floor Wed. night when the Breds play their next game, up on the "hill" against Boone Co. All took 4 days off after football before practicing with the team.

I generally think it takes a month to knock off the rust.
