It does matter when comparing on who was better as you wanted to point in saying if he passes MJ he was better. It took MJ even less games and shots to do it than Kobe, so I think it would be a hard sell to say Kobe was better when it took him longer. Just like people won't say Brett Favre is the best QB of all time, even though he has most of the records. It is because he also played longer and had more games to accomplish it. He just like Favre will go down as an all time great, but no the best ever.

But Jordan was the leader of that team and really made Pippen develop into the player he was. Kobe was not the leader, Shaq really helped make and developed Kobe.

Just because you've played more years in the league or been on BGP longer, doesn't make you better.
