Newport Central Catholic 44 Cooper 42

Did Cooper have all their players back? Lower score than I anticipated. Must have been a battle.

I think the Jags will be just fine. Both starting guards didn't play and Maniacci was limited with his sore ankle and didn't look himself when he was in there. Good depth this year.

Horrible officiating both ways tonight. It looked more like the football game from last weekend.

SPOT ON!!!!

Breds led the entire game, although Cooper mounted a nice comeback, Cooper with an uncontested lay-up at the buzzer. Breds up by 10 with about 4 minutes to go and up 7 with under 30 ticks. Not converting on foul shots made things close. Bueter with 3 fouls before halftime really hurt the Breds and before the 3rd quarter was finished Schulte and McDonald both had 3 and Bueter had picked up number 4. The Breds killed themselves from the "charity strip", 7-17 I believe and most were front ends of one an one's. Freshman Ben Weyer of NewCath played one hell of a game tonight, nice moves down low and attacks the glass well. It will not show in the scoring column, but he is starting to show he is the 6th man. The future is looking bright for him. Devoto and Dupont for NewCath got plenty of minutes and played great. Despite being the shortest on the floor tonight they both blocked shots from "Big Lou". Speaking of Big Lou, might have had 3 points all on foul shots. Cooper was unable do feed him the ball in the paint all night long. McNeil played a good game tonight, the kid hustles.

Who didn't play for Cooper?

Collins?

Morgan?

Shelton?

And Lou was still hurt?

Morgan and Collins out. Lou was hurt. Shelton played well for just getting off the football field. Great defensive effort and when they get the others back that will give more depth to press more and to stay fresh.

Was very impressed with Shelton's turnaround from football. Another week or so and he should be at full strength. Maniacci had 4 points and yes, they were all from the line.

NCC got into a bit of foul trouble with McDonald and Schulte picking up 2 each quickly in the first half. Beuter sat most of the 2nd half after picking up his 4th. Free throws kept this game from being blown open. NCC was 9-19 from the line.

Cooper found themselves down 10 twice in the second half but jkust came up short in the end. As we said on air last night, hopefully a preview of February.

It Was just a BRUTAL game from all aspects. Not well played by either team, poor shooting, especially foul shooting by NCC, poor officiating, not realy fun to watch for either team. I'm sure both teams will be MUCH better after a month or so. Game gave no real insite as to who would win later in the season.

On a positive note, the popcorn was good.

Nice win for NewCAth. Even though Cooper did not have all their football players back it is always nice to win a big game like this on the road. Good luck to both teams throughout the season.
