I don't disagree with either one of you about calling a foul a foul, but there are calls being made this year that haven't been made until right now, which I believe is the point of emphasis. Wouldn't you agree that these fouls are being emphasized now because they haven't been called in the past? The reason that aggressive play has increased is because officials have allowed that to happen. Players have been conditioned to that & now they are being re-conditioned in the other direction. It goes back to the officials, not the coaches, in my opinion.

I agree! I have coached AAU for awhile now. When we first started, we got pushed around. We tried to play clean and all it did was get us beat! For the last three years, we have trained the girls to be more physical. Hitting them with football pads and pool noodles to resemble contact and hand slaps. Making sure defenders are pushing and riding them as they guard our ball handlers so they are used to it in game situations. We don't teach them to be dirty by any means, just be able to play with contact and play as aggressively as the officials will let you! With AAU continuing to be more popular with the girls, physical play will continue...and frankly I have no problem with it. BBall is a physical sport, whether it's girls or boys. I do have a problem with them trying to correct it all at once by just calling more fouls. A LOT of the girls coming into the programs now have a ton of AAU experience and are used to the contact. The girl's game has come a long way, let's not go backwards!

Sorry, one more thing. A foul is a foul. You are correct. However, there are different perceptions about what a foul is. Way back when I played, "contact" was a foul. The game has evolved so much that there are rules about what a foul really is. It's not just contact anymore. It's about gaining an advantage, etc. You see a lot of boding up and hand checking in the open court and colliding at the basket. Officials don't call it if there isn't a clear advantage or if offense initiates contact. Players are trained to initiate contact these days so you know where the player is instead of getting surprised.

The refs were also being filmed, so that didn'thelp either. Gonna be a long year if they try and call everything. Taking away the flow of the game.

I hope they recorded me yelling at them.

A little boy with snowsuit either on or in hand yelling at the refs..... they probably caught that on camera. :)

No biggie...You were only making a "point of emphasis".

^ How many rebounds do you think Jolley had?

Still not sure on that number, but I'd say 12-15.
