With the exception of 24 groups of seniors still playing , there are many new members I would like to welcome to the "former football player" club. Glad to have you.

 

It's one of those clubs where age doesn't matter. You're 18. I'm 49. I know exactly what you went through, good and bad, over the last 4 years. I may not even like you or understand you overall but I KNOW you from the football perspective. So we're equals in that regard.

 

 

By the way, the club does have benefits.

 

You IMMEDIATELY are better and faster than you were even as last as just last night. Weird how it works. We don't questions it. We just roll with it.

 

So, we don't have a secret handshake or anything. We just have respect for your efforts.

You also must let them know, not even are they now faster and better than they were just a day ago, but that "1" great play they made during their playing career now becomes even better than what actually happened. That 20 yard TD run they made now becomes 50 yard TD run with a few more broken tackles thrown in along the way. That Int they had in 20 years when none of your teamates are around to hear you tell the story will then become the game saving Int in the endzone with your team up by only 4 points and only 10 seconds left in the game.

 

Oh the stories get better and better with each passing year and sooner than later they will be wondering why they haven't been inducted into the states hall of fame.

 

But in all seriousness, Congrats to all the Seniors who have played this great game. Be proud of what you have done...and know that advil will become your best friend as you grow older.

Some of us who never got the opportunity to play the game are envious of the new club your in. Congrats on your induction.
