This seems to be very different than my experience as a KY educator. I have been teaching for 17 years and bring home about double what I did the first year. My extracurricular "salary" has stayed about the same, though for different activities now.

Why would you be bringing home $125 less? Were you not married back then? Do you now have children?

This is my 5th year and pay has stayed the same. Contribution to KTRS, and insurance increase, ( yes I got married but we cross reference and that was no the main cause of increase).

Not to mention student loan payment increase.

Working people who make under $100k who have SL's from trying to better themselves have no chance in this economy or climate. I took student loans because I had to, as my dad had no job when college came around and my parents come from meager backgrounds. I went to the workforce, at times working 2 jobs, and when the main job closed form this recession I had to take out more loans to go back to school and help raise my son.

NOW with SL rates at stupid %'s how am I supposed to save so my son doesn't have the same problem?

Not to mention the 60 miles I drive round trip to work and the increase in gas prices and FOOD....not steak, I'm talking beans and rice and milk.

Obama wants to do something to help working people? Help push through the SL forgiveness bills that help people making $35-110k.

How has your contribution to KTRS (Kentucky Teacher Retirement System, for those that don't know) changed, beyond as you earn more, more total money is put into your retirement?

Here you go.

Prior to the 2010-2011 school year, KTRS (certified retirement) employees hired prior to July 1, 2008, paid 9.855% for KTRS participation. Due to legislative action in 2010 (HB540), KTRS increases were mandated as follows:

July 1, 2010 – Increase by twenty-five hundredths percent (0.25%) Employee rate (what KTRS members paid) increased from 9.855% to 10.105%.

July 1, 2011- Increase from an additional (0.25%) to (0.50%) Employee rate increases from 10.105% to 10.355%.

July 1, 2012-Increase from an additional (0.50%) to (1.0%) Employee rate will increase from 10.355% to 10.855%.

July 1, 2013-Increase from an additional (1.0%) to (1.5%) Employee rate will increase from 10.855% to 11.355%.

July 1, 2014-Increase from an additional (1.5%) to (2.25%) Employee rate will increase from 11.355% to 12.105%.

July 1, 2015-Increase from an additional (2.25%) to (3.0%) Employee rate will increase from 12.105% to 12.855%.

For KTRS (certified) employees hired after July 1, 2008, you currently pay 10.855%. HB540 increases were mandated as follows:

July 1, 2013-Increase one-half percent (0.50%) Employee rate will increase from 10.855% to 11.355%.

July 1, 2014-Increase from an additional (0.50%) to (1.25%) Employee rate will increase from 11.355% to 12.105%.

July 1, 2015-Increase from an additional (1.25%) to (2.0%) Employee rate will increase from 12.105% to 12.855%.

When all increases are implemented, all KTRS employees will be paying 12.855% for participation in KTRS. As you can see, each year till 2015-16, KTRS employees will experience an increase in KTRS deductions, which will reduce take home pay.

Here you go.

Gotcha. It's not something that I have noticed in my own paychecks, as my pay has increased due to years of experience. Perhaps it is a district to district thing.

I'm pretty sure it is a state wide deal.

I think that you misunderstood my post. I am not saying that the KTRS ladder is not statewide. I am saying that I have not noticed the small increase in KTRS in my paycheck since 2010 and perhaps it is due to larger "years of experience" increases in some districts than in others.

Got ya, we get $5k every 5 years I think, as well as $5k for Master's and Rank I.
