All State Baseball Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 - Powell County (defending District Champions) (lost a ton of scoring but return a deadly three point shooter in Marcum plus have a good group of players coming back) - Estill County (District Runner-Up) (return all but two players from last year's team but the Engineers will be without Starting PG Trevor Jones due to injury so either Muncie or Bishop will take over that role) - Lee County (lost 7 players from a very good bobcat team. Losing Baker, Estes and Mays will hurt but return two very good shooters in Cornelius and Cox) - Owsley County (lost 2 players from last year's team. Return a very solid group of players not to mention they play pretty well on their home court) For my preseason Favorite I'd have to go with Estill County. They return just about more than any other team in District plus District Tourney is at Estill Co. Unless your a powerhouse, it's hard to go into Estill County and come out with the W. I believe Lee and Powell will be fighting to see who goes to Region but I wouldn't count out Owsley, they will be ready to rock and roll by the time Districts roll around and upsets do happen, remember 2007 when the Owls upset the Lee Co Bobcats
nikeman49 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Always a very weak district....everybody wants to draw them in first round of region...very weak this year as well....
The Professor Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Always a very weak district....everybody wants to draw them in first round of region...very weak this year as well.... Not in every sport. They've dominated in baseball this decade (Estill twice, Lee twice, and Powell twice,), and softball (Estill 3 regional titles). I agree with basketball, the district needs to step it up. Powell and Estill are the 3rd and 4th largest high schools in the region. The region championships from the 56th have been few....1968, 1973, 1974, and 2003.
Cataholic Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Always a very weak district....everybody wants to draw them in first round of region...very weak this year as well....Does not sound like they have the same recruiting budget that Hazard, PCC, and Knott has. I believe that makes a big difference in the ability to compete.
All State Baseball Posted October 7, 2012 Author Posted October 7, 2012 In Baseball, Estill will be one of the top 2 teams in Region. Softball Estill will be the top dawg in region. In Softball Estill has 5 Regional Champions (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012). As for basketball, the teams in the 56th play with home grown kids. They don't go out every year and try to get some of the top players from other schools

All State Baseball Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 (edited) I was referring to The Professor's post about how you said the 56th is weak. Yes it is during basketball, most of the time but they are times they sneak in past the first round of the regions. Baseball and Softball, well no the 56th isn't weak. The reason the 56th is so weak is because they don't go out here and recruit players like the other teams in the 14th do. PCC, Hazard, Knott. Look at Breathitt those boys are home grown kids and their gonna be a force. Why can't Hazard, KCC and the rest that recruit play with home grown kids instead of recruiting? All State Baseball Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 (edited) 56th does need to step it up during the regional tournament. Edited October 8, 2012 by All State Baseball
spindoc Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I'll end this thread on this note, you all have blatantly fractured rule #4 No school-specific (or general) recruiting comments, or allegations of KHSAA rules violations by any school, coach, player or booster are allowed. No talking about where any player lives, has lived, or where they are from in a recruiting context. This is not the place to report KHSAA violations. Feel free to contact www.khsaa.org to report such violations, but do not discuss violations here.
