Crossbar Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Can the Colonels come into Holy Cross and get a win over their district rivals? This is the second of 3 district matchups for the Colonels with a win over Beechwood already and Holy Cross needs to get their first district win with a loss to Holmes. I like the Colonels by 6 CCH - 66 HC - 60
cch5432 Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I sure hope that we can get some Colonel fans in there, as I'm assuming the gym will be packed by 7:05. Last year Scruggs did a good job on Votel, but the other players stepped it up. Obviously the focus of HC will be Jacobs, who I guess they will put Steenken (??) on? Hopefully the others will carry CCH to the win. I see a tight one with CCH pulling it out at the end. CCH-53 HC-48

Plus, HC has lots of guards so I'd guess you will see Lantry on either TJ or Tierney and the other guard (Liable maybe??) on TJ.
cch5432 Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Yeah I was thinking they might try to be very physical with Steenken but I guess they will probably need him down low.

Steeken has guarded both Lawson and Henderson so far this year and done a great job on both.
BigStud Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 My best bet would be Busse on him. Although Steeken has guarded every teams best perimeter scorer to date and done a great job. He is starting to make a name for himself on the defensive side of the ball as well. Usually HC has put Busse on the other big man because of his lenth and quickness and Steeken just guards the best scorer. But Jacobs is a player of who they have not seen the caliber of yet.

If you're telling me that the power forward is going to guard the best offensive guard for CCH, I ain't buying it. Who does that leave to guard the 4 and 5 for CCH? Ryan? Not physically strong enough.

Hats off to Steenken for playing good D but he's nowhere near quick enough to guard TJ. He'll have to back off of him and then HOPE that TJ doesn't drain the 3s like he did against HHS and West Hi. He'd be better off supplying help D to whomever guards TJ.

If you read my post I said I would probably put Busse on him. He has the length to pressure a jump shot and the quickness. But I think you underestimate Steeken's quickness. If he can guard Henderson and keep him out of the paint for the most part, I don't think TJ is any better of a penetrator than Henderson. What scares me about TJ is he is a whole other monster that no other team in the 9th region can repilicate when it comes to shooting the 3.

I cannot comment on the young kid from Holmes ability to shoot the J. I haven't noticed him with many 3s when I look at boxscores. My guess is you play off of him and dare him to shoot and make him make more than one before you change. TJ IMO has the best combo of penetration and J of any guard in NKY. A few may penetrate better (well, one or two may penetrate better) and a few may shoot the 3 better but none do both better.
Crossbar Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 TJ can take you hard to the basket and pull up. That's what separates him from other 2 guards in the region.

But I think outside of may be Jefferson. He is second to none with quickness and strength taking it to the basket.
