So you saw all the games that the out of town teams played?? Why would officials have any reason to be biased. I thought some officials really struggled too...and I'm from nky. Depends on which lens you are looking through. I also felt some did a great job!!

Some did do a good job but for the most part I thought scared of making a call especially right in front of them

I thought it was a great tournament with good teams. Conner and/or Stamm had nothing to do with the officiating. It was out I their control. Of course, no one on this thread is blaming either one, but what can you do about it other than complain? Some were good, some were bad. There were 16 games! Oh, and congrats to Highlands for a great tourney! Well done.

Yes, I saw the games. One reason the refs would be biased is they have to call for those home town coaches all season long, the out of towners they may never call for again, who would you want to please most, your neighbor or someone you don't even know and don't care to make mad, because they can't scratch you. There were a couple of refs who done a decent job but for the most part, local teams got the breaks, especially in the Boone/SW game. Boones coach must have a lot of power up there with the officials, she influenced most of the calls that game. Guess it does depend on what lens you're looking through. Some fans from the other local schools were commenting on how the game was called in Boones favor. Even the announcers on I-high were talking about it.

So did you watch live or on I-high? If online you were definitely looking from a different lens. I watched every game SW played and according to that coach he got homered in each. I think he needs to coach more complain less. The Boone game the refs did make a lot of bad calls but not the extent of homering IMO.

I watched live, my son watched on i high. What is the extent on homering, how do you judge that? When things are called on one end and let go on the other end that justifies homering. Refs called 8 offensive fouls on SW in the game with NCC, all of them when SW was making a run. How many games have you seen when 8 offensive fouls were called total? I don't blame SW coach for complaining, IMO it was obvious the N KY teams got the breaks. Everyone sees the game differently and you are entitled to your opinion as I am mine. We will just have to agree to disagree.

I work with two refs and they will laugh outloud at this response. They think "homering" is the funniest thing fans can say. They are there to do a job and really could care less who wins in any game! They are getting paid to do a job and that's how they approach every game. The game moves too fast to try and make an on the spot decision on whether they should make a call based on which side of the floor it was on. Before traveling teams even step foot on the court, they already feel they are going to get homered (which is funny), so the first time a call doesn't go their way, they feel they are getting homered and it escalates from there. What's funny is you say they need to keep them happy. I say, they ref up here all the time and probably have teams/coaches they don't like from previous games and if they were going to (basically what you're saying) cheat for a team, it wouldn't be the team that they dislike. Also, most of the refs are alums of NKY schools and played against most of these schools in high school. If they were going to cheat, don't you think they might have some bias against schools they dislike that have been entrenched in them since high school.

So you say they are against out of town teams and I can say it's more likely they would be against local teams that they would want to see lose. Both are funny statements because I don't believe either one of them. They are professionals. Yes, they make mistakes and miss calls, but not on purpose and not for any other reason other than they are human. Heck, in the finals, I thought they were letting PRP get away with way too much hand checking and pushing the entire game, but I never once felt it was because they wanted Highlands to lose.

You can sit on your side of the gym and make a case they are against you and I can sit on my side and make the same case. That can happen in any basketball game. But it's a rediculous statement.

Then maybe they should have stopped setting the illegal screens and those calls wouldn't have been made. The red that made those calls is probably one if the best if not the best in the area. In fact he worked a few state games. You asked what is the extent of homering, then answered it? I didn't see any if that in the game.

Officiating was terrible. The out of town teams got a raw deal in most every game. Even some of the locals were talking about it. The announcers in the SW/Boone game were commenting on how biased it was for Boone Co. Nice location, well run tournament, nice people at Connor, but referees were definitely homers.

I don't think we said it was biased for Boone County. We did say that some of the calls were bad...and they were. We also saw one of the same officials at Lloyd the next night and was equally bad.

I had the pleasure to take games in this week at Conner. Watched Boone play in all but one game and I would agree coach Fookes is an X factor coaching and influencing the refs. If one thinks about it that is what she is paid to do. Create whatever advantage a coach can to win games. If teams play themselves into her web then the X factor wins out. Unfortunately in my opinion when scouting Nell Fookes teams do not only need to measure the play of the team but her influence over the entire game. Any team that blames losing a game because of the refs then they put themselves in a position that the refs could determine the outcome. Take control of the game and good or bad calls will NOT be the determining factor of the outcome. Conner did a great job hosting a great holiday tournament and I look forward to next year. The ninth region is going to be very interesting for the balance of the year.
