Lexington 7 on 7 tournament

Featured Replies

Did anyone see who won the final game in the 7 on 7 tournament in Lexington on Saturday? I know Ballard and Pike County beat out Tates Creek and Lafayette in the Semi-Finals. Great day of 7 on 7's, but glad it was Creeks last. I'm looking forward to full pads... Anyway, if someone know's who won the final, please let me know...

We won the final game (and it was against PIKEVILLE--who had some very impressive and YOUNG kids--not Pike County).

...and I'm with you; even though we do this 7on7 stuff fairly well, I'm VERY MUCH looking forward to some hitting to go along with the ball-skills.

RJ's the real deal... super fast kid, with a good eye for the ball. Depending on what Creek does at Quarterback, I expect him to have a break out year at wide receiver too...

Thanks for the info....Tates Creek had the best secondary in the state last year with #19 RJ Taylor and #32 Dennis Oxendine and they are both back this year. Should be a big year for those 2......QB will be huge for that Creek team. They have dynamic athleticism and am hearing very good reports about the young gun Grahm at QB,.......They scrimmage a very good louisville Butler team ranked #5 on Friday, will be a measuring stick to see exactly where they are.....

Nothing like a 3-8 team having the 'best secondary in the state'. SMH

To the poster above.......

Nothing like real info that cuts through sarcastic nonsense huh???

Or..... You may have played a bunch of running teams.

Or..... Not everybody turns in stats

Or..... People ran it down your 3-8 throat and made you like it so they didn't have to pass?

VERY TRUE....but since numbers speak for themselves and the rest is subjective. Im going with what the KHSAA says, and that Tates Creek has 2 high Div 1 caliber DBs that are being actively recruited by big time D1 schools.......The rest is for folks to discuss about who someone didnt play and what not.....But I think playing #2 Scott county, #3 Ryle (pre-Travis Elliott injury), Top 10 Layayette, and the Lexington Schedule along with Madison Central tested them plenty........have at it from there.....

The only numbers that matter is 3-8. What schools have offered these high level DB's?

Dennis Oxendine-----http://rivals.yahoo.com/cincinnati/football/recruiting/player-Dennis-Oxendine-139961....

As far as 3-8 is concerned. Last year was a bridge year for Creek, they had a Senior clas of 8. They have a highly regarded Sophmore and Junior Class that has about 60 kids......Led by several Division 1 prospects...Tates Creek will more than likely be favored to win the city this year, in a very competitive year this year for Lexington.

3 - 8 is the only thing that matters for the team. The entire team isn't going to share a scholarship. So individual accomplishments are crucial for kids that want to stand out and play college ball. Whether the numbers are scued or not, I don't think it's fair to try and take away this accomplishment from these kids. Fact is, over 10 games (not 9 or 8) they allowed fewer yards passing than any other team in the state, and to try to take that away from these kids (especially the two corners that anchored the defense) is just wrong.

That said... I really do feel like one reason Tates Creek went 3-8 last year is because they couldn't really stop the run. Second reason, is because they couldn't pass the ball on offense. However, I think there will be a huge jump in talent level to elevate both these problem areas for Creek this year.

Personally, I've heard RJ is being looked at by Ohio State and Michigan... I know for a fact that Dennis has an offer on the table from Arkansas State...

Creek Fan has obviously watched Creek as he has accurately described the scenario to a T.........and I agree that no accomplishment of any kid should be taken away by simply throwing sweeping statements about the team record as if that defines the accomplishments of individuals.......So many good kids, solid recruits still come from programs that aren't at the top of the heep......Tates Creek was predominantly Freshman and Sophomores, albeit a talented group, had to learn through growing pains. Now that they have, now they return a Sophomore/Junior based team that is very talented and gained a wealth of experience that led them to ending a 3-8 season into losing at #1 Seed Campbell county in the playoffs 22-20 on the last play of the game......Tates Creek will be a much different team this year.
