This is national tournament. LexCath hosted and won a 'dry-run' regional this month. Next year the regional tournament will be a qualifier to this national tournament.

Teams can roster 25 players.

Interesting stuff. Is there a thread/info on the dry run regional?

This year the 'Bombs over Bluegrass' tournament was to get interest in the area. LexCath granted a committed spot in the national tournament for hosting. Next year it will be a 'qualifying tournament' with the winner getting their ticket punched for Hoover.

LexCath did win 36-31 on a last play hail Mary from Bolin to Kearsey over Franklin Co.

Thanks BC.

I often wonder how 7 on 7 success translates to overall success.

Thanks BC.

I often wonder how 7 on 7 success translates to overall success.

It really all depends on each individual team, and what they are trying to accomplish in the 7 on 7's. By that I mean, everyone wants to win, but if you have a new QB, it gives them valuable time (granted not against a rushing defense) reading coverage and making quick decision.

I have always said 7 on 7's help a team more defensively than offensively.

Agree. Gets LBs and DBs up to speed faster.

Thanks BC.

I guess as long as they dont have to cover kickoff returns then LexCath just might win this thing:D

Good Luck Knights!!

Interesting. I just got off the phone with a high school Defensive Coordinator (not Highlands DC by the way) and he told me that he felt 7s don't help LBs and DBs much and may actually hurt. No need to read run or pass as they know it is a pass and at the snap are immediately moving into pass coverage. He felt it created bad habits. He felt 7s help the O more than the D, as the O knows coming up to the LOS in a game that it's a pass. As long as protection is given, the timing developed during 7s is "applicable" to a game situation for the O. With the D however, the timing is different in 7s than during real games.

LexCath was seeded 24th out of 32 teams after pool play.

Lost first game Friday night. Won first game in losers bracket then was eliminated by Chicago area team.

Thanks for the update.

Do you know anything about the other team they lost to and/or the team they beat?

Lost to #8 seed (after pool play) Colquitt Co. out of Georgia Friday night.

Beat West Monroe from La. Saturday morning and lost to Elk Grove from the Chicago area.

The top 4 teams were Lovejoy (Ga), Carver (Al), Fayetteville (Ark) and Sherman (Tx).

Bob Sphire, former LexCath coach, was there with his team - North Gwinnett.

There were all winners of regional qualifiers so the competition was tough. I would say the top 10-12 teams were somewhat separated from the rest in this. But 8 of the top 10 did lose in the first or second round and went early into the losers bracket. I am not sure who won we just got back after the 7 hour trip.

I was challenging for the players to saw some size and speed combinations that are rare in Kentucky. When playing to top tier teams any mistake was jumped on and exploited. You had to stay tight on defense and both defense and offense had to get the 'ball at its peak'. As shown below.

I would have to agree that 7 on 7 is much better for the offense then the defense for the reasons stated. It has always seemed that it was more of an offensive practice then defensive.

Keep up the good work Lex Cath.
