June 26, 201214 yr I think a better question is are the Heat's 1-3 the best 1-3 trio to ever win a title? In comparing it to past trios like the Lakers and Celtic teams of old, you have to consider there were a lot less teams. For the amount of teams there are today, having the best player and two others all-pro caliber players, you have to think they are. For the amount of star power that they have - which relative to the rest of the league I think it is the most ever - the Heat have nowhere near the best cohesion of teams to win a title. Off top of my head: 1987: Magic, Worthy, Kareem 1986: Bird, McHale, Parrish 1972: West, Goodrich, Chamberlin I don't think they are better than the three combos I have above.

Not that I am disagreeing with you, but the talent was all with a few teams then because there were so fewer teams so you have to compare it relative to the era. In '72 there were only 17 teams. Only 22 teams in '86-'87.

Jordan, Pippen, Kukoc (Or Rodman, make the pick) I would say the 2000 Lakers are a good one and often forgotten about. I guess if you were to take the aggregate for that season in ranking players 1-450 (or however many are in the NBA), this one (Heat) would be the lowest in relative terms to the era. Pippen is the kicker. To some he is one of the best players ever. For myself, I always thought Jordan made Pippen and think of Pippen as the most overrated player in NBA history.
