Methodists Maintain Homosexual Acts Are 'Incompatible With Christian Teaching'

The blue laws you speak of are the choices of specific cities and/or counties.

Thanks for the reply Randy.

So why do you think that those specific cities and/counties had blue laws on Sunday?

Because of the Sabbath?

In my opinion most of today's Christians pick and choose what sins are convenient/inconvenient for their own personal agenda.

I agree with this!

I feel like a lot of it has to do with perceptions of the Sabbath. It's certainly not a huge issue for me. I don't see how forbidding alcohol sales one day per week does much of anything. But I think it's probably 75% influenced by Sabbath & 25% influenced by a teetotaller mindset.

I don't disagree at all on the picking-and-choosing, but I don't limit it to Christians. I see a lot of non-Christians doing the same. As far as Christians go, I personally think it has more to do with emphasizing certain sins more so than others. On this subject of homosexuality, I think that's one of the sins that Christians seem to place on the pedestal more so than others. I think most would acknowledge that there is also sexual sin of a heterosexual nature, but for whatever reason, homosexuality gets the limelight.

The whole blue laws/Sabbath thing is strange to me because the Old Testament Sabbath was Saturday; not Sunday.

That's why I am so turned off by today's Christianity.

We live in the most overweight country in the world, when the preacher preaches about the sins of alcohol, gambling and homosexuality but I never hear anything said about the dangers of the all you can eat buffet!

Gluttony was actually in the back of my mind as I was writing that post. I actually heard a sermon one time entitled "Gluttony: The Sin We Like To Ignore."

I read somewhere that the Sabbath was on Saturday and Sunday. You were supposed to get all you needed on Saturday and Sunday prepared on Friday.Something like that.

Discussed in Sunday School gluttony this morning.

Are you thinking of the Israelites collecting manna? That's the only thing I can think of related to what you're talking about.

And I would point out that a person does not have to be grossly overweight to be a glutton. I'm not considered fat, but gluttony is something I have really struggled with in the last 5-7 years.

I wonder how many people after Church ate to much for lunch.Maybe went to a restaurant and ate to much food, while having someone else wait on them and cook their food.(On the Sabbath)

I'll pose the same question i did this morning:

You eat a meal with 8,000 calories but your activities burnt off 7,500 are you a glutton like a person who ate 8,000 calories but activities burnt off 2,000?

Are you thinking of the Israelites collecting manna? That's the only thing I can think of related to what you're talking about.

I can't remember.I've been doing alot of research about the sabbath over the last few months.I will do some back tracking and post a link.

Christianity has 0% to do about other Christians but rather 100% about your personal relationship with Christ.
