To have 4 D1 recruits on a team is crazy!

 

Question how many Basketball players boys or girls will go D1 in the area with athletic money? How about the other sports? Soccer will have several, softball 1 or 2, I would think football gets a couple every year. Sounds like volleyball has several. So to have 4 D1 players from one school is just nuts to me. Congrats to all the girls.

I tend to agree with you especially considering NDA is a volleyball power which lends itself to getting girls from all over NKY. However, at least 2 of the 4 (not sure about Schuler) are from NDA feeder schools .

 

Volleyball is played well mainly in two areas in KY - Louisville and NKY. The other sports mentioned by SSC are played well throughout the state so talent is much more widespread.

One thing to note is the High School has nothing to do with it - public, private, doesn't matter. That's not where the scholarships are.

 

No one is getting a scholarship based on school ball - and that goes for almost every sport these days (except football). No coach is going to go watch you play HS soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, etc. Scholarships come from playing club volleyball, select soccer, AAU basketball, etc. and getting seen at huge tournaments against elite competition.

I would be willing to bet most private schools don't have 4 D1 athletes total in their school much less in one sport on the same team at least in KY. I know Holy Cross has maybe 3 or 4 in the school not sure about the rest of the private schools in NKY.

 

Just do some math and there is a little under 300 D1 schools and not all are fully funded so if they have 12 scholarships to give in a sport like volleyball that means on average they have 3 year, that is 900 at most probably closer to 800 bc of funding. How many high schools are in the states, maybe 15,000. So for a school to have 4 is pretty "nuts" to me. At NDA this may be common but for everywhere else it is certainly not.

 

I know nothing about volleyball so maybe I should just say congrats and move on.

I know all about it, we have to fly to most of our tourneys bc of distance. We drive to Chicago just for practice. Its not uncommon for us to have between 10 and 20 D1 coaches at practice for our org.

Someone else can verify for me, but NCC had 3 or 4 from last fall go D1 did they not? St. Henry has at least 2 -Bessler and Fortner - is there anyone else on St. Henry? It all pales to Assumption, which routinely has 6 or more players a year going D1.

NDA played Assumption in either the finals or the semis at NKU a few years ago. I believe their first 6 plus their first sub all went D1 that year.

That was 2007 in the Championship match at NKU. Assumption won fairly easily, but then didn't even go to state in 08 or 09 as Mercy and Sacred Heart met in the Championship match 2 years in a row. The one in 09 was when NDA and NCC both fell in the semi's at NKU.

Yes - sad ending. Outside Hitter named Kaitlyn James. Put everything into her hits - maybe too much. Blew out her shoulder. Was red shirted as a Frosh due to shoulder, played through shoulder injuries as Soph, then just couldn't play anymore and had to retire. Stayed on scholarship and finished at Nebraska.

Penn State is pretty big. Julie Farley from Dixie went to Alabama in 2001.
