I personally would like to see Coach Tackett at Rowan County get this job. He is one of the hardest working coaches that i have ever seen at the high school level and I have been around high school basketball for about 15 years.

What does he teach?

Haven't heard much about this position lately. When are they looking to fill this, who are some of the candidates?

Robbie Graham is the logical choice. He is a basketball legend who played at Candy. He has touched so many young people lives and he would be a perfect fit.

What about Mike Kindred?

What about Mike Kindred?

He is the front runner I hear. Great coach and teacher. Knows lots of people across the state, and has the resume for an attractive offer. Will be interesting to see how it tins out.

GoldSunrise, what is the latest word on this job?

Interviews are next week. GRC will interview 6 candidates. Expect an announcement soon after that.

I hope Scott Latham gets this position. He's a great coach and has been with this team for awhile. He has also coached some of these talented girls throughout middle school. Parents agree he is a positive influence and mentor. If GRC TRULY wants the best candidate for this girls team, they'll hire Latham.

Believe the delay was GRC need to fill two coaching positions.Boys Soccer and Girls b-ball. The Soccer coach was hired last week.

Great list of canidates. Some in the system and some from outside. As I stated before 6 will be interviewed.

If someone isnt acknowledged for over a decade of exceptional service to a winning girls team, that just means its ALL politics!! It's just WRONG. But nothing can be done about it.

Interviews will be this Thursday.

Let me start with this disclaimer - I don't have any knowledge or insights in to the unique charactersitics of the GRC position. However my years of experience have certainly taught me this:

Frequently the person hired may not be the best basketball person for the job, which would seem to be the first priority. Instead, as ridiculous as it may seem, the person hired often times is the candidate who is the most "sell-able" to the community from the perspective of the "selectors," so that it covers their back-sides and is politically self-serving.

When I was younger and quite a bit more naive, I was oblivious to this way of thinking until a high school principal explained to me personally why they chose the candidate that they did. Well, I was shocked at first to hear such a statement but have noticed the pattern unfold over the years. And sure enough, as my Grandma used to say, the pattern appears to still be holding true.

Now occasionally it does come together so that the best basketball person is hired, but normally only when it is politically correct to do so.
